The Chosen One? Jose Mourinho Agrees Three-Year Deal To Make Chelsea Return
Jose Mourinho has taken another step to replacing Rafa Benitez as Chelsea boss with the ‘Special One’ agreeing a three-year contract to return to Stamford Bridge
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Jose Mourinho is a step closer to making a return to Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho has taken another step to replacing Rafa Benitez as Chelsea boss with the Mirror reporting that the ‘Special One’ has agreed in principal a three-year contract to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
Mourinho spent a hugely successful three-year spell at the Bridge between 2004-2007 when he won two Premier League titles and four domestic cup competitions before being forced out the door following a series of bust-ups with owner Roman Abramovich.
The Portuguese coach is now in charge at Real Madrid but the Mirror claim he’s set to leave Spain this summer and it seems he could be on his way back to West London after Abramovich finally swallowed his pride and agreed to sanction his return.
The report suggests that Mourinho and Abramovich have reached a provisional agreement that would see the 50-year-old take over from Benitez this summer on a three-year contract but there are still some hurdles to overcome before the move is made official.
Firstly, the Mirror claim Chelsea would have to finish in the top-four this season and secondly, Mourinho is understood to have reservations about working in an environment where technical director Michael Emenalo and chief executive Ron Gourlay hold all the power.
The newspaper suggests that the Blues have lined up Guus Hiddink as a potential back-up option if the Mourinho deal falls-through, while there are also claims that Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes has struck a similar agreement with PSG for Jose to take over from Carlo Ancelotti if they fail to win the Ligue 1 title.
