Arsenal Dealt Huge Blow As Diaby Ruled Out For Up To 9 Months – Time To Say Goodbye?

Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Abou Diaby will be out for between eight and nine months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Abou-Diaby

Some devastating, yet not surprising, news Gooners as Arsenal have just confirmed that injury-plagued midfielder Abou Diaby will be out for between eight and nine months after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

The 26-year-old French midfielder picked up the latest injury in training on Wednesday and scans have confirmed the full extent of the problem.

Following consultation with specialist, Diaby will now undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to be on the sidelines for up to nine months. A statement on Arsenal.com read:

“The Club can confirm that Abou Diaby injured his left knee in training on Wednesday and subsequent scans have confirmed that he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament. Abou is expected to be out for around eight to nine months.”

Diaby missed practically all of last season with various injuries and has been restricted to just 14 appearances this term. In fact, during his eight seasons at the Emirates he’s made just 177 appearances. That’s an average of about 22 per season.

As talented as he may be when fit, I think it’s time we admit defeat with Diaby. He’s clearly never going to be able to stay fit long enough to be a reliable first choice player. Hopefully he can come back from this latest set back and forge a career elsewhere, but he’s never going to make it at Arsenal.

What do you think, is it time we gave up on Diaby? Get involved in the comments section below.
