Tottenham crashed out of the Europa League in the most painful manner after losing a penalty shoot-out 4-1 after the tie had ended 4-4 on aggregate.

The Londoners took the lead in the 23rd minute when Clint Dempsey rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home but Basel drew level within 5 minutes when Salah cooly slotted home past Brad Freidel for 1-1. Basel then took control of the tie when Dragovic poked home from close range but Spurs levelled the game, and the tie, when Dempsey found the equaliser with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Neither team could force a winner in extra-time and the game went to a shoot out but Huddlestone and Adebayor fluffed their spot kicks to see Spurs crash out. Watch all the action here as well as the penalty shoot out below:
