Arsenal Set Sights On Bundesliga Stopper

Arsenal have turned their attention to Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler after being put-off by Sunderland and Stoke’s valuation’s of Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic

Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with Rene Adler.

Arsenal have turned their attention to Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler after being put-off by Sunderland and Stoke’s valuation’s of Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic, according to the Mirror.

A new goalkeeper has been touted this summer after Wojciech Szczesny lost his place in the first team last month. While the young Pole is now back between the sticks due to Lukasz Fabianski picking up a rib injury, it still seems likely Arsene Wenger will bring in another stopper at the end of the season.

The Mirror claim the boss has cooled his long-term interest in Mignolet and Begovic due to their £15m asking prices, and has now targetted German international Adler.

The report suggests Gunners’ scouts have been keeping a close eye on the 28-year-old in recent months and are confident they can land him for around £5m – which is £10m less than Mignolet or Begovic would cost – and Wenger is understood to be keen to bring him to the Emirates as his new No.1 this summer.

I don’t think there is any doubt we need a new goalkeeper. Szczesny has had an extremely disappointing season and as I’ve said before, I think he was handed the first team gloves too soon. However, I still see him as our long-term No.1 but he just needs an experienced keeper to learn from and push him to improve.

Is Adler the man for the job? I’m not totally convinced but we’ll have to see what Wenger does in the summer. I’d still prefer Mignolet or Begovic but £15m is a lot and it would be no surprise if the boss went for the cheaper option of Adler.
