Lewandowski On Brink Of Snubbing United And Signing 5-Year Bayern Deal
Manchester United look likely to miss out on Robert Lewandowski with the Borussia Dortmund striker set to sign a five-year deal to join Bayern Munich this summer
Despite the transfer window being closed there is still plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd look set to miss out on Robert Lewandowski.
Manchester United look likely to miss out on Robert Lewandowski with the Borussia Dortmund striker set to sign a five-year deal to join Bayern Munich this summer, according to the Sun.
Lewandowski has emerged as one of of the most sought-after striker’s in Europe after scoring 74 goals in 132 games for Dortmund since joining from Lech Poznan in 2010, and he hit a stunning four-goal salvo against Real Madrid in the semi-final’s of the Champions League last week to further enhance his reputation.
However, the 24-year-old has just over a year left to run on his current contract and there have been no signs an extension will be signed, leading to question marks over his future. Dortmund will have to make a decision over whether to let him run down the final year of his deal and leave for nothing next summer, or cash in now when they can still demand a sizable fee.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently admitted he was an admirer of the striker’s and could make room for him at Old Trafford but it seems the Premier League champions may have missed the boat with the Sun claiming Lewandowski has his heart set on joining Bayern Munich and is on the brink of signing a £160,000-a-week five-year deal at the Allianz Arena.
This comes just days after the players agent, Maik Barthel, was quoted in the Guardian as saying that while Lewandowski would like to try his luck in the Premiership one day, he didn’t see him moving to England this summer.
“I can tell you only one thing – Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League. The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future.” Barthel is quoted as saying by the Guardian.

So it looks like United may not land Lewandowski this summer, which would be a shame as it would be great to see how he’d perform in the Premier League. But let’s not feel too sorry for the champions, Sir Alex does still have Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck to choose from!
