Luis-Suarez-Liverpool

With the summer transfer window set to re-open there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Barcelona are linked with Pepe Reina and Atletico Madrid are preparing a £40m bid for Luis Suarez.

Atletico prepare £40m Suarez bid

First up and the Mirror are reporting that Atletico Madrid are lining-up a £40m bid for striker Luis Suarez this summer with the La Liga outfit being bankrolled by the oil-rich Azerbaijan government who are using the country’s billions to promote their nation across the globe and as part of that strategy, they signed a multi-million pound shirt sponsorship deal with Atletico in January.

The newspaper suggests the Spaniard’s will use the money from the sale of Radamel Falcao to fund a £40m move to land Suarez, and the Azerbaijan government are set to inject up to £6m a year to pay for the Uruguayan international’s wages.

Suarez has endured another tough season on Merseyside with the striker recently receiving a 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, and there have been suggestions he may be forced out of the Premier League despite Liverpool being desperate to keep hold of him.

The Mirror claim he may be tempted by a switch to Atletico as they will be able to offer him Champions League football, while his good friend and compatriot, Deigo Godin, is currently on the books at the Vicente Calderón Stadium and may be able to persuade Suarez to join him.

Barca keen on Reina

Next up and the Guardian are one of several outlets who’re reporting that Barcelona have once again turned their attention to Liverpool’s Pepe Reina as they search for a replacement for Victor Valdes.

Valdes recently announced that he won’t be signing an extension at the Nou Camp and with his contract set to expire in 12 months time there have been suggestions that he could be on the move this summer while the Catalans can still command a fee for his services.

The Guardian claim that Barca’s first choice to replace Valdes is Liverpool’s Reina, but with the keeper under contract until 2016 and Brendan Rodgers understood to be keen on keeping hold of him, it may prove difficult to prize him away from Anfield.

But that doesn’t look like it will deter Barcelona with the newspaper suggesting the La Liga champions will press ahead with their interest and submit a firm offer this summer if Valdes does leave at the end of the season.
