Liverpool and Chelsea have been dealt a blow after that Xabi Alonso ruled out leaving Real Madrid this summer, according to the Express.

The report claims the Premier League duo had hoped to lure the Spanish international midfielder back to England this summer amid rumours he’s stalling on signing a new contract at the Bernabeu – with his current deal set to expire in 12 months time.

The Express suggest Reds boss Brendan Rodgers wants to bring the Liverpool favourite back to Anfield at the end of the season while Chelsea are also thought to be interested with Jose Mourinho understood to be keen on bringing the 31-year-old with him if he makes a return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, speaking after Real Madrid thrashed Malaga 6-2 on Wednesday night, Alonso dismissed suggestions he will leave the Spanish capital and insisted he’ll still be with Madrid next season.

“Of course I’m going to be here next season,”

“It’s important to maintain good feelings, with an important match coming up next week,” he continued.

“We’re mentally prepared for the cup final, it will be a tough match. It’s a clear objective, one we can achieve this year and nothing else can distract us. We all have to pull in the same direction.” Alonso is quoted as saying by the Express.

Real failed to defend their La Liga title but will take on local rivals Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final next Friday, in what could be Jose Mourinho’s last game in charge, but it seems Alonso is planning on sticking around for a while longer – much to the disappointed of Liverpool and Chelsea fans.
