Transfer News: Liverpool Eye Madrid Raid, Spurs To Miss Out On Exciting Playmaker
Latest Liverpool and Tottenam transfer news: Reds target Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol and Spurs target Christian Eriksen is in talks with Borussia Dortmund.
With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool target Raul Albiol and Christian Eriksen is in talks with Borussia Dortmund.
Reds eye Albiol
First up and the Express claim Liverpool have turned their attention to Real Madrid centre-back Raul Albiol as they continue to search for Jamie Carragher’s replacement.
The Reds legend has decided to hang up his boots at the end of the season giving Brendan Rodgers a huge hole to fill at the heart of his defence. The Express suggest the Northern Irishman has been frustrated in his attempts to land No.1 target Ashley Williams from former club Swansea and his search for alternatives has lead him to Spain in the form of Albiol.
The 27-year-old has fallen out-of-favour at the Bernabeu, making just 11 starts this season, so he may be looking for a move this summer in search of first team football ahead of the 2014 World Cup and it seems Liverpool could be ready to offer him a new challenge in the Premier League.
Albiol moved to Madrid from Valencia in 2009 and after a decent first season, he quickly fell down the pecking order and has only made 45 appearances in the past three years, so a move this summer looks likely if he wants to win a place in the Spain squad for next years World Cup.
Eriksen in Dortmund talks
Next up and the Express again are reporting that long-term Liverpool and Tottenham target Christian Eriksen has opened talks with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old Danish international has seen his future fill the gossip pages in recent months after confirming he is likely to leave Ajax this summer. The Express suggest the likes of Liverpool and Spurs are keen on luring the exciting attacking midfielder to England, but it looks like he could be set to turn his back on a move to the Premier League in favour of Germany.
Eriksen recently admitted Dortmund are a club he’d love to play for after the recent rise in popularity of the Bundesliga.
“Dortmund are a club where I would like to play, I think I would be a good fit there with the football there.
“Dortmund play nice, attacking football. The Bundesliga has never really been my preferred choice and a few years ago I would not even have considered it, but now I do.
“The competition is getting stronger and it is no coincidence the two Champions League finalists are German clubs.” Eriksen is quoted as saying by the Express.
Dortmund will lose influential play-maker Mario Gotze to rivals Bayern Munich at the end of the season and it seems the deposed German champions have identified Eriksen as a potential replacement, much to the frustration of Spurs and Liverpool.
