Wenger Dampens A Good Week With Some Bad News For Arsenal Fans

Written by Fab4.

It seems Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has really lost it. We all saw it, every Arsenal fan, Tottenham fan, pundit, everyone who watched Spurs vs Arsenal on Tuesday saw Lukasz Fabianski make yet another error that resulted in us conceding a goal. This time Fabianski got a full hand to Robbie Keane’s shot but failed to prevent it crossing the line, it was a relatively routine save and considering how much he got on the ball, the keeper should certainly have kept it out. But Wenger continues to bury his head in the sand and claim it wasn’t his fault.

Nothing seems to be Fabianski’s fault. Error after error but every time Wenger comes out with excuses for the Pole. Some of the excuses have foundation, like the blackburn game at the end of last season when he was barged by Samba as he headed the winner. But how on earth can Wenger say the following words with a straight face??:

“You can’t blame him for that goal because he touched it and when a goalkeeper touches the ball you always think he should stop it,” said Wenger

“But if he dives and doesn’t touch it nobody speaks about it.

“First of all, the goal was offside and apart from that I think he had a sound game.”

WHAT? Two things Arsene. The fact Keane was offside is irrelevant, Fabianski didn’t know that. And secondly, yes you can blame him for the goal, he got a full hand to it and the ball practically squirmed under him. You are defending the indefensible on this occasion.

I am all for supporting Arsenal players but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade, and Fabianski is a spade! It seems every time he makes a mistake, which is often, Wenger comes out and defends him saying he is ‘a world class talent’. What ballocks.

He is nowhere near a world class talent, but i tell you who is……Wojciech Szczesny! And you are on the verge of pushing him out the club because you keep persisting with Fabianski. Give it up! He will NEVER make it at Arsenal, he doesn’t have the mental strength or the ability. Get rid and promote Szczesny to Almunia’s understudy and play him in the Carling Cup.

But we all know Wenger will continue to play Fabianski on some rogue mission to prove everybody else wrong, and we all know it’s going to cost us at some point this season. Then the bad news will come that Arsene is backing his error-prone No.2 once more. Will a lesson never be learn’t?

Sorry mate but YOUR WRONG !

The ball was struck very sweetly and with some pace too i might add.. and it was perfectly placed as well.. give the guy a break dude..!!

Go watch the goal again, he was most certainly at fault.

Seems the player himself thinks he should have saved it:

“I’m only unhappy with the goal because I had to save it, the shot wasn’t so strong so I’m disappointed with it.”

Not a strong shot and he had to save it….spot on Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger backs his players? Jesus Christ what kind of crazy lunatic is he?

See my other comments. Why praise poor performance?!

Dont forget the three occasions when he allowed dangerous crosses to just sail past him, expecting someone else to deal with it?

Watching Kuscaz the other night for Man U I saw him berrating himself for not catching a stinging shot. This anger and drive is significantly lacking in Fabianski, the fear in his eyes says it all, he does not have the minerals and never will have. Unfortunately neither does Almunia. And to top it off Wenger’s comments yesterday that Mannone is ahead of Szczesny and “deserves his chance first” are just as absurd, if Szczesny is better than Mannone then it doesnt matter what he “deserves” its what Arsenal deserve and that is a decent keeper.

Wojciech Szczesny is shite also, hes just tall and collects high balls well.

Having watched Szczesny at Griffin Park a few times last season, I can confirm he is the real deal.

Sure that was Division One and not the Premiership, but how can he get the experience he needs if he’s not given a chance ?

Come on Arsene, as Fab4 correctly points out Flappy was at fault for the Spuds goal; as he has been at fault time and time again over the last couple of years. You said it yourself (and I paraphrase here): ‘ you can only give a person so many chances’. Well Flappy has had more than his fair share of chances. Cut the umbilical cord and let him go Arsene….he’s not a baby anymore, just a bad goalkeeper.

And here we have the last of the great moaners. I heard it all last summer, and now look at our squad and the condition of this club. So who’s left? ahh! a goalie in his mid- twenties we can target. So tell me, why make it worse by givin him a hard time and puttin him under so much pressure? huh? you tryin to destabilize your own team? Try SUPPORTING them – they will play better then STOOPID! This squad is the best yet! Wake up and smell the quality. So Wenger has ‘lost it’ by protecting his goalie? Errr check the positives and mention them… this will boast the players. THATS WHAT SUPPORTERS DO!!!! So I believe YOU have lost it. You are not a supporter – you are a moaner. This squad is the best squad on the planet, and is improving by the day, and will do for years to come. YOU COULD LEARN SOMETHING FROM THE ARSENAL AWAY CROWD.

    • Fab4

      September 24, 2010 at 1:13 pm

As a supporter i don’t have to be blind and ignore the obvious. I can have an opinion different to wenger and any other arsenal fan, although most know fabianski will never make it. So my point is why continue to play him when he keeps making simple errors?

I support arsenal but I also have an opinion and don’t have to think every single arsenal player is amazing.

I fully understand backing a player but sometimes there is backing the unbackable. Have you not ever considered that always rewarding poor performance with a glowing tribute could breed complacency?! Mayr some of the players need to hear some home truths and the criticism might make them up their game. One thing is for sure….praise isn’t working on fabianski!

      • Dave Highbury

        September 24, 2010 at 1:50 pm

So you think Wenger didn’t atempt to buy a new goalie? You think he doesn’t know? You think we won’t whooop Chelski on the 3rd?

  7. Theo Elder

    September 24, 2010 at 10:43 am

E Van Der Sar conceded two goals against Fulham early in the season, Both goals wnet through his hands but I cant find one single site making a big deal of this. Why hasnt VDS being dropped and replaced by the self berrrating Kuscaz.

  8. Weedz

    September 24, 2010 at 11:35 am

He only said `He had a sound game.` He didn`t say he had a great game. Ffs what are you on Fab4? Wengers lost his mind? Take a look in the mirror, sonny.

    • Fab4

      September 24, 2010 at 12:13 pm

Thanks for your comment but I think you should do some research.

Wenger continues to claim fabianski is a works class talent and play him in the first team when it’s clea he’s not up to it. It’s not just a case of him saying ‘he had a decry game’ is it?!

  9. Alex

    September 24, 2010 at 11:48 am

Fab 4, dont throw your toys out now, engage your brain please. This is standard Wenger talk as far as the press is concerned. If you haven’t understodd his press talks till now it probably means you are not an analytical person. AW always backs his players in public. Any berating or demotion is done in private. If Fabianski plays in the next round of games then you complain. Not now.

    • Fab4

      September 24, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Alex, thanks for the advice but I know perfectly well how wenger operates.

Th point being, this isn’t an issolated incident. Fabianski has made error after error ad wenger not only continues to back him, by play him!

So going by your advice, I have every right to complain.

        September 24, 2010 at 4:46 pm

So what you gonna do Fab4? Play Football Manager and let him off on a free mate and that’s the best you can do.

Alex is correct. A good manager cannot criticize Fab by saying Well what a lousy keeper he is…….. sell him! publicly. You are smart Alex

        • Fab4

          September 24, 2010 at 4:58 pm

You know what’s funny, the people who mention football manager are usually the ones who actually play it!

My days of sitting on computer games for hours on end are well behind me.

The answer is very simple, don’t dish out unwarranted praise. That’s all I’m asking for. Don’t praise poor performance and don’t reward it.

It’s a real shame that despite a great result and a pretty promising outlook at the club there are still wannabe Journo Gooners who will make a point of doom-mongering over the most minor of points.
i] Wenger wouldn’t come out and slate Fabianski to the media under any circumstances, it’s not his style.
ii] As Weedz said ‘he had a sound game’ is hardly a glowing review anyway.
It’s really disappointing to read this hyperbole, it’s like reading the Sun and the Daily Fail, creating a story out of nothing (made worse because it is coming from one of our own). It creates negative vibes around the club and its supporters which is not necessary.
Get behind your club you loser or go and join that ******* Pierce Morgan at the Mail.

100% correct – all those muppets who keep backing Wengers stupid statements is what keeps him making them
Does he not realise how stupid it makes him in the eyes of other teams

I can see how much he’s got to you…I mean, getting you to drop your Vowels and Consonants in a flurry of disgust…

But your right. It should have been saved. It’s in the corner, but he got there. Bad wrist action…he has no luck! Backing a player is all well and good, if they show SOMETHING of a payback. The defense are playing inspite of him now…the AST called Gazidas on it at the end of the season, but nothings been done. It’s hard to support a player who makes you so nervous.

great comment paul. perfectly summed up in 2 sentences.
wengers achilles heel is that he will never admit to making an error of judgement. Anyone in any responsible position will tell you that to have that blind stubborn attitude will result in a doomed failure in time. sometimes he reminds me of a poker player that cant stack his hand.

Gomez for spurs doesn’t ever look like he’s got the anger or determination but… What a goalie. One of the best in the premiership now. Injured though.

why are you such an ass? obviously you have not played football before, why do you always want to see problems where none exist? he had a “nice” game game period!! keane took what might have been a spot kick, and fab went down well and was unlucky not to keep it out period! i hate it when “supposed” gunners start unnecessary criticism. obviously peter cech is havin a jittery time at chelski buh nobody there is selling him out. part of wenger’s job is to boost his player’s confidence and that’s what he’s been doing. live with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Fab4

      September 24, 2010 at 8:14 pm

Please read my previous comments….I am an Arsenal fan but have an opinion of my own. i don’t have to follow every word the manager says and treat it as gospel. The problem is clear….Wenger persisting with players that WILL NEVER make it at Arsenal and it’s costing us dear.

Concentrate on the players who have REAL ability and drop the duds. Fabianski has proven time and time again he’s not up to it but Wenger continues to come out and spout his ‘support’ for his player. What is that teaching Fabianski? it’s ok to make mistakes because your boss will still call you world class and play you ahead of others. Great lesson! If you think that it best for AFC then good on you, but it most certainly aint! Life’s a bitch and some players need tough love.

And before you say it, no, i’m not asking for Wenger to hammer his players in public. I’m simply asking for the unnecessary praise to stop, it’s pointless and embarrassing and has no benefit to AFC.

Why must I be an idiot just for having an opinion different to yours?

He got a full hand on it, should have kept it out. Doesn’t deserve praise from him boss – that’s MY opinion, and the opinion if many others.

Brilliant you’re a genius, lesson 101 in how to be a good football manager. take a pretty good player, who’s got a bit of a confidence crisis (possibly because a large section of his own fans have it in for him) and rip him to shreds in front of the media. That’ll make him play better and arsenal better, won’t it. If you’re to stupid to see and understand how Wenger manages, after 14 years at the club, I think you’re wasting your time and ours writing about his management techniques….

Wenger hasn’t dampened a good week in any way, you have by having nothing to offer but a very tiresome pot shot….

    • Fab4

      September 25, 2010 at 10:20 am

How about you take the time to read all my comments before shouting you’re mouth off? I have already addressed you’re tired and pointless argument but i’ll deal with it one more time.

When did i say Wenger should rip him to shreds in the media? I am simply saying he shouldn’t dish out unwarranted praise. There is a very big difference.

I know exactly how Wenger manages, but i don’t have to agree with all of his techniques do i? or is that not allowed, can i not have an opinion different to that of the boss?

For me, and many other Arsenal fans, the continuous praise for players such as Fabianski straight after they make yet another high profile mistake, is nothing short of laughable and embarrassing.

And fans like you who think he’s simply ‘backing his player and giving him confidence’ need to take you’re head out the sand.

Fans like me are fine and dandy, supporting a club with a few minimal down sides, but on a positive note, I watch some of the best football in the world week in week out, my clubs in a healthy state of affairs financially. When many clubs including some of the biggest in world football are close to financial meltdown, and we’ve got a bloody good chance of competing for trophies this year . Fans like you who make outrageous statement like ‘Arsene Wenger has really lost it’ after we knock tottenham out of a cup a shit hart lane. Are the ones with your heads in the sand. If you find Arsene Wenger ‘laughable and embarrassing’ you really need to grow up and work out how well you bread is buttered as a football fan. Would you like to be in Tottenhams, Leeds, Liverpools or Portsmouths shoe’s? If you could name six football clubs in the world that are truly enviable to ours, I’d be impressed. On a goal keeper front, I agree with you and don’t hold much hope for Fabianski, but do you really think that game was an ideal time to play a 20 year old keeper who’s only played a half season at Brentford. Alright Fabianski isn’t brilliant, alright Wenger doesn’t take issue with it in public and personally I’d love to see Szczesny come through this season, but just because I’ve watched a few reserve games and a compilation on youtube, I’m not going to have the sheer aurdacity to claim I know more than Arsene Wenger about running a football club, developing young players and knowing who should be our 1st and 2nd choice goal keepers. Get over your self little boy…

    • Fab4

      September 25, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Nice reply but 99% of it was irrelevant to what my argument is. There is no club in the world better run than Arsenal, i wouldn’t swap our situation for any other teams, including the sugar-daddy clubs like City/Chelsea.

BUT, i will say once again, i have a voice and an opinion of my own and know very well that EVERY manager in world football has his weaknesses and i think one of Wengers is dishing out ill-timed and unwarranted praise. Simple.

I think Arsene has lost it, in the case of his continual backing of Fabianski when its clear to most people he is not good enough and very error prone. Do you think the Tottenham game was the right game to play Fabianski in?! He’s shown in every big game he cant handle the pressure, and once again he made a mistake at the lane. So why was Wenger right not to play Szczesny and stick with Fabs?

Yes, i find it embarrassing when our No2 makes another clanger and the next day Wenger is out saying it wasn’t his fault and he’s a world class talent. Totally embarrassing and makes Arsene look like a fool, which we all know he’s not and yes i know exactly why he is saying it. But it doesn’t work, on Fabianski anyway, as backing him over the years has done nothing for him as he’s not progressing. Cut the meaningless praise and say nothing if asked.

I’m not claiming to know more than Le Boss, of course i don’t, and the fact you say exaggerated rubbish like that shows how thin your argument is.

And ‘little boy’ – you have no idea who i am let alone my age. I am a betting man and i will give you decent odds that i am older than your good self.
