Chelsea Tipped To Hijack Arsenal’s £25m Move For Stevan Jovetic

Chelsea will try and hijack Arsenal’s £25m move for Stevan Joveitc with in-coming boss Jose Mourinho understood to be a huge fan of the Fiorentina striker.

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, could Chelsea move for Stevan Jovetic?

Stevan Jovetic

Reports on Wednesday have tipped Chelsea to try and hijack Arsenal’s £25m move for Stevan Joveitc this summer with in-coming boss Jose Mourinho understood to be a huge fan of the Fiorentina striker.

Jovetic has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months and the Metro reported on Tuesday that the striker’s agent was due in London for talks after the Gunners tabled a record offer believed to be in the region of £25m.

However, the Daily Star claim today that Mourinho is due to take over the reigns at Stamford Bridge next month after Real Madrid confirmed he will be leaving the Bernabeu by mutual consent and they believe he’s ready to enter the chance for the talented 23-year-old.

An apparent ‘source’ told the newspaper that Mourinho is a fan of the Montenegrin international:

“Jose appreciates JoJo (Jovetic) a lot. Let’s see what happens when he is at Chelsea.” A source told the Star

Jovetic has enjoyed another excellent season with Fiorentina but he now looks set for a move this summer after the Viola narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification when AC Milan struck two late goals to deny them third spot on the final day of the season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is expected to spend big this summer after securing fourth place in the Premier League and a striker is likely to be a priority, with the Gunners heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud through the middle this season.

But the possible competition from Chelsea could complicate their interest in Jovetic and it will be interesting to see where the striker ends up if he opts for a move to England this summer.

“Fiorentina director Daniele Pradè insists there has been no contact from Arsenal over striker Stevan Jovetic.”

There has been contact since January. There are all kinds of reasons for their Director to deny contact, like Arsenal insisting on confidentiality.

i think he is too lightweight for premier league, too expensive to buy and maintain. I would get Benteke and Michu, they are both affordable and experienced in the premier league. They score goals and goals win games.

very true. a 13 goal a season striker is never worth 25m. we should concentrate on Benteke/Higuain and a powerhouse like Wilfreid Bony.
