Christian Benteke ‘Convinced’ He Could Seal Arsenal Move

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has admitted he would jump at the chance to join Arsenal if the Gunners came in for him this summer, but he could cost £20m

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Christian Benteke hints at a move this summer.

Christian Benteke Aston-Villa

Some interesting quotes coming from Christian Benteke today with the Aston Villa striker admitting he would jump at the chance to join Arsenal if the Gunners came in for him this summer, according to the Express.

The Belgian international enjoyed a sensational debut season in the Premier League, scoring 19 league goals to almost single handedly save Villa from the drop last season following his £7m move from Genk last summer.

But he has now admitted he doesn’t want to miss out on a big move and has claimed he will be the one to decide his future this summer, despite the fact he’s still got three years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park.

The Express claim Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are among the clubs showing an interest in the 22-year-old, but it’s the Gunners who seem to have caught Benteke’s eye after the striker admitted he’d be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium if Arsene Wenger came calling.

“I hope that if I leave my club a deal can be done more quickly than the one last year,” he said.

“There is no point in me getting into a tug-of-war with Villa, and I don’t think there is any need for one. If the chance comes up for me to join a club like Arsenal, I am convinced that we can reach a compromise where everybody comes out a winner.

“If Villa say that I have to stay put, I will find it hard to accept. I don’t want to be left with regrets about not getting the most out of my career. It’s only normal for there to be transfer rumours about me. I have done my job on the pitch. It could be risky to change clubs a year before the World Cup finals. When a situation arises, I will weigh up the pros and cons with my family, as I cannot afford to make a mistake.”

“I have asked my agent not to bother me with transfer talk while I am away on Belgium duty,” he said.

“It’s now down to him to do his job. I have known him since I was 14 years old, and I have complete confidence in him.” Benteke is quoted as saying by the Express.

The newspaper suggests Villa will demand in excess of £20m for the powerful frontman and it’s looking increasingly likely the Midlanders may struggle to keep hold of their star man this summer.

I think Benteke would be an excellent signing for Arsenal or Tottenham. He’s young, powerful, pacey and has done the business in the Premier League. If he can score 19 goals for a struggling Villa side, just imagine how many he could get with the likes of Cazorla or Bale supplying him.

But while the player is hinting at a move, the ball is still in Villa’s court as he’s tied to a contract and the club will dictate whether he’s sold or not this summer. Let’s see what happens….

jesus if he goes arsenal ill be mad but i cant see us spending 30m on a striker whos had one good season.

id much rather spend the rumoured 36m on soldado and damiao.

@tryme… I would rather spend £30m on benteke than spend £25m on soldado & damiao… My reasons are not far fetched
    1…He is younger
2….he is a proven EPL striker
    3….he is a gooner
4…he has shown his desire to play for the club, meaning he would give his all for us.
And i have a question for you.. What are the chances of soldado and damiao hitting the ground running if the arrive??? U might say benteke did it so why cant they do it, but the fact is..benteke would be going into his 2nd epl season why soldado & damiao would only be experiencing their 1st epl season..for me its a no brainer. We shouldnt compromise bentekes signing. Whuch would you go for??
1.. A player who would have his epl debut season.
2.. A player who has proven himself in his debut season and is set to go into his 2nd season?

Wenger must buy Jovetic and Benteke then a solid defender like Ashly Williams and a defensive midfielder then a replacement of Tomas Rosick then finally a right footed defender to replace sagna and a quality goalkeeper who can command his area. Wenger must change or go. The Club is bigger than Wenger.

I feel as if this would be a great signing for the gunners because, being a arsenal fan this is the sort of player we need. A player in whcich shows passion and commitment and also demonstrates his will to win and is a leader of men. Just like another viera

wenger should forget jovetic get benteke for 10m instead of 30m jovetic. sonogo is free. now dat 20 million for navas will be a gud buy.QPR’s ceazer 5m. swansea’s willian 8m. lyon’s gonalons 12m and a very gud right back. And Real betis Be. if arsenal will nt lift silverware next summer.

I trust Wenger and I am optimistic that he’ll come through with spectacular signings, given his transfer budget. Let’s see, Jovetic is a great player and has the ability to bring others into the game, but to pay 30 milion pounds for him having managed only 12 goals??? That’s a lil too much. Benteke is the Ideal man (many football fanatics would agree) having had such an impressive season. Upfront he’s all we need. In mid field we should definitely bring in Kondogbia who undoubtedly has the ability to pass, control and make vital interceptions. Back four, I think our CB’s (Per and Koscielny) are great, but we need backup and who better than Ashley Williams. RB, Sagna should leave and bring in Pizchek.
