Jovetic Talks At Breaking Point As Arsenal Refuse To Meet £25m Asking Price

Arsenal’s move for Stevan Jovetic is in danger of collapse with the club refusing to meet Fiorentina’s £25m asking price for the striker, according to reports

With the summer transfer window set to re-open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal’s move for Stevn Joveitc hits a stumbling block.

Stevan Jovetic

Arsenal’s move for Stevan Jovetic is in danger of collapse with the club refusing to meet Fiorentina’s £25m asking price for the striker, according to the Daily Mail.

Boss Arsene Wenger is expected to bring in another front man this summer and Jovetic has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months. The Mail claim talks between Arsenal and Fiorentina have been ongoing for a number of weeks but they appear to be at breaking point as we continue to haggle over the fee.

The report suggests the Italians are refusing to budge on their £25m asking price while we’re understood to be only willing to pay £20m for the 23-year-old, leaving talks at an impasse.

Negotiations are also complicated by interest from Juventus and the newspaper believes Arsenal officials feel the Serie A champions are in pole position to land the Montenegro striker despite Fiorentina’s reluctance to sell to a domestic rival, as they’re willing to meet the full asking price.

If this report is accurate, it has a worryingly familiar ring to it. How many times have we been heavily linked with a player only to be told we missed out because we refused to meet the full asking price? Of course big-money transfers take a long time to complete and the negotiation process can be lengthy, but sometimes if you really want a player you just have to pay what the selling club is demanding.

If Jovetic is Wenger’s No.1 striking target, the club needs to go all out to land him and if that means we have to pay a little more, then so be it. We’re not always going to be able to squeeze every penny out of a deal and it’s vital we get our targets in early this summer, so let’s push the boat out and pay what’s required.

I dont think it is all Wenger! I blame the board and the fact that we are majority owned by a American who only see’s profit in Arsenal. Maybe Wenger wants to meet the price but the board wont allow it as it reduces their dividends?
