Transfer News: Arsenal Want Paraguayan Defender – Chelsea In For Dutch Wonderkid

Latest transfer news. Today, Arsenal are linked with a move for defender Lorenzo Melgarejo and Chelsea’s interest in Marco van Ginkel is confirmed by his agent.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with a move for Paraguayan defender Lorenzo Melgarejo and Chelsea’s interest in Marco van Ginkel is confirmed by his agent.

Arsenal want Melgarejo

First up and Sky Sports are carrying quotes from the agent of Benfica defender Lorenzo Melgarejo that claim that Arsenal and Fenerbache have made enquiries for the Paraguayan.

The 22-year-old broke into the Benfica first team last season with manager Jorge Jesus converting him to a left back after starting out his career further up the pitch and he put in an impressive display in the Europa League final against Chelsea.

The players agent, Juan Gabriel, has now claimed that Arsenal have made an equiry to the Portuguese outfit for his services but no official offer has been put on the table as yet.

“Arsenal and Fenerbahce have enquired about Melgarejo. But so far there has been nothing concrete,” Gabriel is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Sky Sports suggest the defender is valued at around £5m and he could be one of the first signings from Arsene Wenger this summer after chief executive Ivan Gazidis confirmed the Frenchman has money available to spend ahead of next season.

However, signing another left back would be something of a surprise move with Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal already on the books at the Emirates, but perhaps Wenger has another position in mind for the versatile Melgarejo if he manages to lure him to north London this summer.

Chelsea in for Ginkel

Next up and the Mirror are carrying quotes from the agent of Dutch wonderkid Marco van Ginkel that suggest Chelsea are one of several clubs interested in signing the Vitesse Arnhem midfielder.

van Ginkel has emerged as one of the most exciting youngsters in Holland after a string of impressive displays for Vitesse last season and it seems new Blues boss Jose Mourinho is keen to lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The players agent, Karel Jansen, has revealed that Europa League winners are one of several clubs who are interested but insists the situation won’t be resolved until after the European Under-21 Championships are over.

“Chelsea are interested, we don’t deny it.

“But there are more clubs. Ajax had made official contact with Vitesse, but they don’t want to talk with them.

“The situation is that we wait until after the European Championships and then will look for the best step.

“Marco still has two years under contract, so we don’t know if he will leave Arnhem but there isn’t an agreement right now.” Jansen is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

The Mirror claim Vitesse are on the verge of agreeing a £7m deal for the 20-year-old but it seems the players agent disagrees and that Chelsea face some stiff competition if they’re to land the exciting youngster.
