The mother of Edinson Cavani has claimed Chelsea are yet to make a formal move for the striker but revealed the Napoli hitman IS in talks with Manchester City and Real Madrid over a potential summer move, according to the Mirror.

The 26-year-old has become one of the world’s hottest strikers after another excellent season in Serie A, where his 29 goals in 34 games helped Napoli secure Champions League qualification for next season. His form appears to have lead to interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with the Mirror suggesting the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are all keen to lure the hitman away from Italy this summer.

The report claims the west Londoners failed with a £43m bid for the Uruguayan with Napoli president Aurelio Di Laurentiis believed to be holding out for the full £53m required to trigger the players release clause.

The newspaper believes Jose Mourinho is determined to land Cavani this summer but the Blues appear to be well behind in the race to sign the prolific South American with the players mother, Berta, revealing that her son is already in talks with Manchester City and Real Madrid, while she claims there is nothing official on the table from Chelsea.

“Edi is dealing with Real Madrid and City.

“Napoli president De Laurentiis has spoken with Chelsea, but so far there is nothing concrete.”

“In two or three weeks we will know Edinson’s future. As soon as we know something concrete you will be the first to know.

“In any case, I assure you Edinson loves Naples and if he has to go, he will never forget the love and affection of the people and fans there.” Berta Cavani is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

There is little doubt that Cavani is one of the best strikers in the world at present and he would be a huge asset to the Premier League if he did make the move to England, but it would seem that Chelsea still have a lot of work to do if they’re to lure him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It would be a big mistake for Cavani to turn down the possibility of working with Mourinho at the club most likely to win the Premiership next season.
