Chelsea and Manchester City have received a huge blow in their pursuit of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani after the players father revealed he is desperate to join Real Madrid this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The Uruguayan hitman has emerged as one of the world’s hottest properties this summer after bagging 36 goals for Napoli to help guide them to a second-placed finish in Serie A and secure Champions League qualification.

His form appears to have attracted interest from some of Europe’s super-powers with Sky Sports claiming Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on luring him to the Premier League this summer while Spanish giants Real Madrid are also understood to be interested.

However, the 26-year-old’s father, Luis, has revealed that his son is set to snub a switch to England as he has his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.

“Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid. He is excited about it and is very willing to see it through.

“He has told the family in private that he wants to join Real Madrid but if he declares it publicly it will annoy Napoli.” He is quoted as saying by Sky Sports

Cavani senior went on to say that there has already been contact with Real Madrid and the two clubs are due to meet to discuss a potential move, with Napoli said to be holding out for the full 65m Euro buy-out clause in the strikers contract. He continued:

“There has been contact with Real Madrid’s lawyers and now we are waiting for the two clubs to meet,” he said.

“I hope it happens and that talks take place as soon as possible. Who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid?

“It’s not just up to Edi. They are talking about 65million euros and Napoli won’t negotiate for any less.”

If Cavani ends up at Madrid it will not only be a huge blow to Chelsea and Man City but also to the Premier League as a whole. The South American is a world class player and you can’t have too many of them plying their trade in England so for that reason I hope he has a change of heart and comes to the Premiership. Come on Edinson, you know you want to…
