Arsenal Table Record-Breaking Bid For Gonzalo Higuain

Arsenal have tabled a record bid for Gonzalo Higuain with Juventus paving the way for a move to the Emirates after switching their attention to Carlos Tevez.

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal have tabled a bid for Gonzalo Higuain.

Some interesting news coming from the Evening Standard today Gooners with the newspaper reporting that Arsenal have tabled a record-breaking bid for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The report claims that Italian champions Juventus have paved the way for the Argentinean hitman to move to the Emirates after refusing to increase their £18.7m offer and with Madrid believed to be holding out for £25.5m the Eastlanders have now switched their focus to Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez – who could be available for as little as £10m this summer as he only has 12 months remaining on his current contract.

This leaves Arsenal as the only serious bidders for Higuain and the Standard report that Arsene Wenger has now stepped up his interest by tabling a record bid in excess of £20m for the 25-year-old’s services and is keen to get the player on board before the players return for pre-season training on July 4.

If accurate, this bid easily beats the £15m we paid Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin back in January 2009 and would certainly be a statement of intent by the club that they mean business this summer. The former River Plate striker would be an excellent addition if we can get him in and he would certainly provide us with a potent threat up front next season.

However, Higuain’s exit from the Bernabeu could be delayed until Madrid sort out their managerial situation with the La Liga giants yet to officially confirm Jose Mourinho’s replacement. Carlo Ancelotti is widely expected to take over but PSG are digging their heels in until they find their own replacement so we may be forced to wait even if a deal is agreed in the coming days.
