Italian Press Claim De Laurentiis Is In London To Finalise €58m Cavani To Chelsea Deal

By on June 20, 2013

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, is Edinson Cavani on the verge of moving to Chelsea?

Some interesting developments on the future of Edinson Cavani with reports in Italy claiming that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is in London to finalise the sale of the hitman to Chelsea in a €58m (£49m) deal.

Cavani has emerged as one of the world’s most sought-after strikers after scoring 104 goals in just 138 appearances for Napoli since joining from Palermo, but it seems his time in Serie A is up and he could be set for a move to the Premier League.

Italian media outlet tuttonapoli are carrying quotes from journalist Raffaele Auriemma who claims that Napoli president De Laurentiis returned from a holiday in the US and was due to arrive in London on Wednesday or Thursday to complete the sale of Cavani to Chelsea in a deal worth a staggering €58m (£49m) plus bonuses. Here’s a translation:

“President De Laurentiis has just returned from the United States but Wednesday or Thursday will go to London to sell Cavani to Chelsea. From what I know, the Blues will pour into the coffers blue about 58milioni euro plus bonus. ” Auriemma is quoted as saying by tuttonapoli

Other Italian outlets such as Calciomercato have also been running a similar story while British newspaper the Mirror are reporting that the Blues will meet with Napoli officials in the next 24 hours to discuss the signing of the 26-year-old, so there certainly seems to be something going on.

Cavani is currently away on international duty at the Confederations Cup so you’d think that any potential deal would have to wait until the tournament is over before it could be completed, but the prospect of the hitman moving to west London is certainly mouthwatering for Blues fans.

Should Chelsea manage to secure the Uruguayan’s services, they would finally have a world class striker to spearhead the attack and Cavani would create a deadly front-line alongside Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge next season. But nothing is official yet, so watch this space….

I’m a Chelsea fan & I support the idea of buying Cavani but on one condition, Torres & Ba should be out on sells, while Lukaku should be given a chance to play with Cavani

I don’t want Cavani, he is so costly. J M bring back Lukaku pliz, this is his right season to break through chelsea xi. He is heavyweight, talent and powerful player resumbling D. Drogba.

Tottaly agree with most of the commets, here we must not sell Mata, or Luiz our future captain. I really dont know wht both these players have done to be ushed out the door by Jose, no matter wht he tries here Jose is going to start making enemys with the fans for no reason. We have won both major European trophys with these two players in the team. I can see Roman getting involved and once he does Jose can only blame himself for this. Both Mata, and Luiz are Chelsea’s future and instead of building the team around these players Jose is trying to get rid of them. Oscar, Hazard, also need the team to be built around them, but when i here the likes of Essian, JT, and Lamps are the ones he wants to improve u have to say he is just relying on the older players rather than give them less games and built our future.

Am not worried either Cavani is coming or not but my problem is, Jose should not sell neither Luiz nor Mata because they are guys who normally keep shining at black game and remember, those top strikers from different clubs do not shine well at Stamford and pliz look at 50m of Torres what is the benefit now? it is better for Jose to manage then spent now at least next Jan. transfer so that we see what will be the outcome of this players.
