Manchester United Table £12m Bid For Everton Defender Leighton Baines

Manchester United have tabled a £12m offer for left-back Leighton Baines but Everton are determined to hang on to the England ace, insisting he’s not for sale.

With the summer transfer window set to open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Man Utd make their move for Leighton Baines.

Manchester United have tabled a £12m bid for left-back Leighton Baines but Everton are determined to hang on to the England defender this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

New United boss David Moyes is no stranger to Baines having signed him for Everton back in 2007 and he’s since grown into one of the best full-backs in Europe over the last six years at Goodison Park.

With Moyes now in the hot-seat at Old Trafford it appears he wants to bring the 28-year-old with him and the Mail are one of several media outlets who’re reporting this afternoon that United have now made an official approach for the defender.

However, it seems the Toffees are determined to keep hold of their star man and the report claims the Merseysiders have rejected United’s £12m offer, insisting Baines is not for sale.

The player was recently quoted as saying he was looking forward to working with Moyes replacement, Roberto Martinez:

‘He (Martinez) was one of the first names linked with the job and the feeling straight away was he would be a great appointment.

‘He has a different style to what we have been used to but I think it is progressive and it will move us forward. It is also exciting for the players to be able to try that now.’ Baines is quoted as saying by the Mail.

However, the lure of United will be a tempting proposition and you wouldn’t blame him if he’s now had his head turned following the official approach from the champions. We’ll have to wait and see whether the Manchester giants come back in with an improved offer or move on to other targets, but if I was a betting man I’d back Baines to be reunited with his former boss this summer.
