Spurs Eye £25m-Rated Belgian As Club Close In On Villa Signing

Tottenham have turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke after all-but securing the signature of David Villa from La Liga gaints Barcelona

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham are looking to add to their strike-force.

Christian Benteke Aston-Villa

Tottenham have turned their attention to Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke after all-but securing the signature of David Villa from Barcelona, according to the Mirror.

The north Londoners have already been busy in the early stages of the summer transfer market after signing midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians in a £17m deal, and now it seems they’ve set about strengthening their attack.

The Mirror claim Spanish hitman Villa is poised to sign from Barcelona after Tottenham’s main rivals for his signature, Fiorentina, paved the way for a move to White Hart Lane after agreeing a deal to sign Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich.

However, boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to bring in at least one more striker this summer and the report suggests he’s keen to land Belgian international Benteke from Villa and is undeterred by the clubs £25m valuation.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season in the Premier League, hitting 19 goals to lead Paul Lamberts side to safety following his £7m switch from Genk last summer. The Midlanders are keen to secure his long-term future by offering him a new deal but the powerful striker has so far resisted their attempts, leading to speculation he could be open to a move.

The newspaper claims Spurs offered Jermain Defoe in part-exchange last month but Villa rejected the proposal, and AVB is now expected to press ahead with another move for Benteke as he looks to re-shape his strike-force ahead of next season.

A move to the Lane will surely be tempting for the youngster as playing in Europe will boost his chances of playing for Belgium at the 2014 World Cup next summer, but we’ll have to wait an see whether Tottenham are able to strike a deal with Villa.

So by close in, you mean haven’t made an enquiry, bid or made any sort of indication they are interested in the player – and the selling club have expressed they have no intention of selling and are offering the player a new deal?

Phil, you seem to have mis-interpreted this story. Spurs are closing in on signing David Villa (the player) not Bentenke from Villa (the club) lol

A young up and coming team that almost got relegated compared to a team that has finished 5th, 5th, 8th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th…as for bigger ground and more fans…Spurs are in the process of getting a new ground and clearly have many more fans than villa. We have much more of a global following than villa will ever have

Lol… Why would Benteke leave a much bigger, better supported club. Spurs have had their day and are on a downwards spiral whilst Villa are going in the opposite direction. Benteke for Spurs, your having a laugh.

How are spurs on a downward spiral, we have just attained the highest points tally we have ever had in the league. Villa better hope they are going in the opposite direction because you couldnt do much worse without getting relegated

keep taking the tablets mate, you’ll eventually feel better then come back to reality.
Why would Benteke want to play for a club that’s gonna be relegation candidates ? Instead he can enjoy playing alongside real stars at Spurs in a club that’s got ambition and is NOT selling its best player. Wakey wakey.

Villa is a good team they are building for the future Bentekes progress came out of the blue and has shown he is capable of playing for a team pushing top 4 ,hes unproven so wont intrest Barca,Manu,Chelsea,Arsenals after Higuin but Spurs seems like a perfect fit.Villa are at a different stage right now are better off selling and using the cash to keep building Lambert is a smart manager and will bring in another Benteke type along with some other talent.

Im a villa fan and fully admit that spurs are a better outfit at the moment, but the fact remains that you cant offer Benteke C/L, your manager is hopeless and as for a team of stars you have one in Bale who i admit is great but may well be on his way.As for the price 19 mill plus a player or two, there isnt anyone at spurs that i would we would want. Love these people who say we would be better better off selling notice they dont say that about bale, lets face it your not gonna get C/L unless you spend big and the only way you will be able to do that is if you sell Bale

Gger Spurs are a good club and have a good team at the moment but what makes them a bigger club than Villa ?: just because spurs are from London does not make them a bigger than everone else. Villa. Everton Newcastle and Sunderland are probably all as big if not bigger than Spurs.

Where is the argument? spurs are better then villa in every area player for player apart from forward man who we will take off you. Then loan you some youngsters like we did with walker, your a feeder club. But i do like what lambert is trying to do with young players but he had no backing from your shit fans for most of the season.

Typical northerners. Thick, ignorant and living in the past. Villa are fighting to stay up or at best 14/15th place. U are finished. Football has changed and your sole ambition is to stay up. If we dont get Benteke someone else will. Only thing that is for sure is he aint gonna stay with a small time club like Villa

Big H you are a typical southern tw@t deluded by your London press ! Spurs are not the only big club in the country you are deluded if you think you spuds are one of the really big boys who can lure away top players from other clubs. Some spurs fans are getting carried away with recent seasons maybe its because of having spent most of your history living in Arsenals shadow that has caused your delusion.
