Benteke To Snub Chelsea In Favour Of Move To Tottenham
Christian Benteke will snub a move to Chelsea in favour of Tottenham but Aston Villa will demand £25million from the north Londoners for the strikers services.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Christian Benteke fancies a move to Spurs over Chelsea.
Christian Benteke will snub a move to Chelsea in favour of Tottenham but Aston Villa will demand £25m from the north Londoners for the strikers services, according to the Mirror.
Benteke enjoyed a stunning debut season in England after making a £8m move from Genk last summer, scoring 19 Premier League goals to almost single-handedly keep Villa in the top flight last season.
The giant Belgian stunned the club by handing in a transfer request on Monday night after he and his agent, Kismet Eris, held talks with manager Paul Lambert over the weekend where it was made clear he wanted a move this summer.
The Mirror claim both Tottenham and Chelsea have registered their interest already but the 22-year-old is understood to have his heart set on a move to White Hart Lane as Andre Villas-Boas is willing to offer him regular first team football – something that’s vital to the striker ahead of next summers World Cup where he hopes to spearhead the Belgium attack.
However, with the player still having three years left to run on his contract at Villa Park, the Villains won’t be forced into selling their prized asset on the cheap and the newspaper suggests owner Randy Lerner is ready to play hardball with counterpart Daniel Levy and will demand £25m for Benteke’s signature.
It’s understood Levy is prepared to wait until the final days of the transfer window in the hope of driving the price down, but the report claims Villa have made it clear they want any transfer completed before the start of the new season or they’ll force the striker to stay.
Villa have now headed off on their pre-season tour of Germany but Benteke has been left behind and given extended leave until his future is resolved.
