With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Tottenham are closing in on the signing of winger Chadli while Manchester United are lining-up an improved offer for Leighton Baines.
Spurs table £6m Chadli bid
First up and the Daily Mail are one of several media outlets who’re reporting that Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Nacer Chadli from FC Twente after tabling a £6m bid.
The Belgian winger has been hugely impressive for Twente since joining the club back in 2010 and it appears he’s caught the eye of Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas with the Mail claiming the north Londoners have submitted an opening £6m offer.
The report suggests the Dutch outfit are holding out for a fee nearer £7.75m but the two clubs are expected to agree a deal somewhere between the two figures and the player is expected to sign a five-year deal.
The 23-year-old is a versatile attacker who can play on either flank and holds duel citizenship with both Morocco and Belgium – although he elected to represent Belgium at senior international level and should Chadli complete his move to Spurs, he’ll join compatriots Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele at White Hart Lane.
Moyes sanctions £14m offer
Next up and the Mirror are claiming that Manchester United boss David Moyes has sanctioned a new and improved £14m offer for Everton left-back Leighton Baines.
The champions saw their opening bid of £12m rejected by the Toffees last month with reports suggesting it would take a fee nearer £18m to persuade the club into selling. However, while United are not prepared to meet that sum, the Mirror suggest Moyes is prepared to up their bid to £14m with the former Everton boss understood to be desperate to bring Baines with him to Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old has been at Goodison Park for six years but the newspaper claims he’s now keen on ending his stay on Merseyside in favour of linking up with his old boss at United.
