Barcelona have launched a £25m move for David Luiz with Chelsea believed to have given the Spaniards encouragement that a deal could be struck for the defender, according to reports on Friday night.

The Brazilians future has surprisingly come under scrutiny following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager this summer, with reports suggesting the Portuguese coach isn’t convinced by the 26-year-old’s defensive capabilities.

Now, Goal claim that Barcelona have stepped up their interest after making a formal approach for the players services and it’s been suggested that Chelsea have made it clear that they could be open to selling if the deal is right.

The report claims the Catalans have made a £25m move after making Luiz their No.1 centre-back target after missing out on Marquinhos and Thiago Silva, and it’s understood that informal discussions have already begun with the players representatives.

Barca are on the look-out for a new defender to fill the boots of Carles Puyol who at 35, is coming to the end of his illustrious career, while Eric Abidal also left the Nou Camp this summer.

Luiz has become a real fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Benfica in January 2011 and selling the lovable Brazilian would surely be met with discontent by the majority of Blues fans.

Personally, I would be majorly surprised if he was to leave this summer and Mourinho ruled out selling either Luiz or Juan Mata just last week, but Goal seem certain Chelsea are open to selling the afro-haired Samba Star so we’ll have to see how this develops over the coming days.

You people should consider the type of coach Mouriho is before making your comments. I know David would not obey his commandments. Let the guy go so that he can find the one he want to avoid problem in the camp.just think of this

Even to be truthful Messi,Iniesta and Neymar are far below the worth of our Experience Luiz,so that we are asking for the inclusion of these players is to let Barca no the worth of our own Luiz.

Are u kidding me?, u have a player such as David luiz & u wanna let him go?. Luiz is Versatile which is a good thing for any coach, his abilities are exceptional. A center-back who can play as a left-back/right-back [benfica], who can play as an holding midfielder & can also score Goals

If he isn’t good enough why then is barcelona interested…he commits errors but makes-up for them with his performance. That’s we love him & that’s why he’s called “The fan-favourite”
