Dad Confirms Arsenal’s Interest In Brazilian Attacker
The father of Atletico Mineiro attacker Bernard has confirmed Arsenal are interested in signing his son this summer but feels a move to Porto is a better option
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal’s interest in Bernard is confirmed by the players father.
The father of Atletico Mineiro attacker Bernard has confirmed Arsenal are interested in signing his son this summer but feels a move to Porto may be a better option, according to the Metro.
The Brazilian international has emerged as one of the hottest properties in South America after an excellent season with Mineiro, while his reputation grew further following a positive showing at this summers Confederations Cup.
A whole host of clubs from throughout Europe have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old this summer and reports last week strongly suggested a move to Arsenal could be on the cards.
The players father, Duarte, has now confirmed the Gunners interest but claims nothing official is on the table just yet.
‘Nothing is decided yet, but we know there is an interest from Arsenal,’
‘There has been nothing official from them.’ Duarte is quoted as saying by the Metro.
The Metro claim Arsene Wenger sent scouts to run-the-rule over Bernard during both legs of the recent Copa Libertadores final between Miniero and Olimpia and his team are understood to have been impressed by what they saw, with the Gunners boss now lining up a bid for the £25m-rated attacker.
However, his dad Duarte feels a move to Porto would be a better move for his son at this stage of his career. He continued:
‘Porto would be a better move for his career,’ he added. ‘It would be a dream of mine to see him playing for them.’
With Gervinho set for a move to Roma, it seems Wenger may have identified Bernard as a potential replacement for the Ivorian. However, it appears we’re going to have a fight on our hands to persuade the Samba Star to make the switch to north London.
