London duo Arsenal and Chelsea and battling it out to sign out-of-favour Bayern Munich midfielder Gustavo, according to reports in Germany.

Gustavo slipped down the pecking order last season following the arrival of Javi Martinez and was limited to just 22 Bundesliga appearances – many of which came from the bench.

It seems his chances of first team football under new coach Pep Guardiola have taken another hit following the signings of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona and Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund, with the exciting duo adding to the array of talent already on offer at the Allianz Arena.

German publication Bild claim Gustavo has now been told he’s surplus to requirements and is free to find a new club, with Arsenal and Chelsea understood to keen to lure him to the Premier League this summer, although the London pair are going to face stiff competition from Wolfsburg.

The Brazilian international hinted recently that he could be set to leave Bayern and Arsenal and Chelsea are both believed to have made enquiries for the £15m-rated midfielder last week.

The 26-year-old is a traditional defensive midfielder but he is also capable of playing anywhere across the backline, so his versatility would be a key asset to his new team. Arsenal are believed to be in the market for a holding midfield player with Arsene Wenger yet to properly replace the departed Alex Song.

New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also on the look out for a possible replacement for John Obi Mikel who’s been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

The signing of another mid-fielder is a misplaced priority. The mid-fieders in the blues is enough. What the blues needs now is one attacker to support Lukaku.Again,if the blues want to replace a mid-fielder.it should Lamp or Essien who are getting older with less strength & energy. The blues should not sell Mikel whatsoever.lf a mid-fielder is to be sold, why did the blues extended the contract of Lamp for one year ?How much would the blues get when his contract expires? He may be sold at a cheap price or he might go on free transfer.Mikel isn’t for sale.

Delay has hamper all arsenal target, because of this Wenger should learn his lesson by promptly agree on all his target. With today’s emirate btw Napoli, two lesson Wenger should learn: 1. Defense Midfielder n a sharp Striker to compliment Giroud in front of goal. 2. Goalkeeper must be look into. Finally, just go and invest on three more players and we are sure to give our rivals a run for their huge investment. In Wenger l Trust! Go ahead and show them what we can do in the field of play.
