Transfer News: Chelsea Plot Double Raid | Arsenal Line-Up £20m Midfielder Bid
Latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with a double raid on Anzhi Makhachkala while Arsenal are lining-up a £20million bid for Ilkay Gundogan.
With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea are linked with a double raid on Anzhi Makhachkala while Arsenal are lining-up a £20m bid for Ilkay Gundogan.
Chelsea eye double Anzhi raid
First up and the Express are reporting that Chelsea are set to launch a double raid on Anzhi Makhachkala for attackers Samuel Eto’o and Willian after the Russian outfit put their whole squad up for sale.
Anzhi released a statement on Wednesday confirming that they had put their big-money stars up for sale in order to fall in line with FIFA’s financial fair play rules and they would be cutting their budget by almost £50 a year.
The clubs President Konstantin Remchukov said on Twitter that the heavy spending has not brought the rapid success they had hoped for and now they would be selling their star players and focussing on developing their youth academy instead.
The Express claim that Chelsea are looking to take advantage of the impending fire-sale by snapping up both striker Samuel Eto’o and attacker Willian. Jose Mourinho worked with Eto’o at Inter Milan while the Blues were heavily linked with Brazilian attacker Willian before he made the £30m move to Anzhi in January.
Arsenal ready £20m Gundogan bid
Next up and the Express are also reporting that Arsenal are lining up a £20m move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ikay Gundogan.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has struggled to land any of his big name targets so far this summer and the newspaper suggests he’s identified Gundogan as a long-term replacement for 31-year-old Mikel Arteta.
The Express claim Arsenal are ready to try and lure the German international to the Emirates and will test Dortmund’s resolve with a £20m bid this summer.
However, the 22-year-old’s father has recently been quoted as saying he’s keen for his son to remain with Dortmund and is confident he will soon sign a new deal with the Champions League finalists, claiming it’s too early in the midfielders career for him to move abroad just yet.
“I am keen to ensure he (Ilkay) remains with Borussia Dortmund,” Gundogan’s father is quoted as saying in the Express
“He is doing fine so it’s a bit early to move to a club in England or Spain at this point in time.
“Borussia Dortmund will be coming up with an offer of a new contract soon.
“We will be able to oversee things much better then.”
Gundogan’s current deal expires in 2015 and it seems like Arsenal may have their work cut out in trying to persuade his father that a move north London is a good idea, while Dortmund are also likely to be reluctant to sell another one of their key assets after seeing Mario Gotze join Bayern Munich earlier this summer.
So there’s another dose of transfer news. Would Chelsea fans welcome Eto’o and Willian this summer? What about Arsenal fans; would you like to see the club splash out on Gundogan? Share your views below.
