With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are bracing themselves for an improved £17m offer from Barcelona for Daniel Agger while Spurs are in talks over the signing of Croatian wonderkid Alen Halilovic.
Liverpool braced for £17m bid
First up and the Daily Star are one of several media outlets who’re reporting that Barcelona are ready to submit an improved offer for Liverpool’s Daniel Agger.
The newspaper claims that the Merseysiders rejected Barca’s opening £15m bid last week but the Catalans are expected to go back in with a slightly improved £17m bid as sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta desperately tries to bring in a ball-playing centre-back this summer.
Barca have been linked with a number of defenders in recent weeks including the likes of David Luiz and Thiago Silva, but they appear confident of luring Agger to the Nou Camp with the Star claiming the 28-year-old is keen to make the move in search of Champions League football.
However, the La Liga champions may be interested to learn that Brendan Rodgers announced Agger as Liverpool’s vice-captain on Friday, so despite what the newspapers say, a move away from Anfield is highly unlikely this summer.
Spurs in talks
Next up and the Daily Star are also reporting that Tottenham are in talks with Dinamo Zagreb over the signing of Croatian wonderkid Alen Halilovic.
The report claims that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy met up with Dinamo owner Zdravko Mamic in Dubrovnik where they held lengthy talks about Halilovic making the move to White Hart Lane.
The two clubs are understood to have a good relationship after Spurs signed Luka Modric in 2008 and the Star suggests that Spurs have now stolen a march on the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan – who are all thought to be keeping an eye on the highly-rated 17-year-old.
However, any potential deal has been complicated by Dinamo manager Krunoslav Jurcic, who has apparently fallen out with owner Mamic over the potential sale of Halilovic.
Tottenham have been one of the most active clubs this summer bringing in established names such as Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Nacer Chadli while a deal for midfielder Etienne Capoue is also understood to be close to completion.

Arsenal fan here. How stupid are you? Why did you even take your time to write that comment.
– Bernard’s already signed of Shakhtar Donetsk so you can take him right out your team
Morata:
– You have no chance, Madrid won’t let him go, not even as makeweight for Bale
– Why would he go Liverpool?
Same with Modric, they don’t want to sell him and why the hell would he leave Madrid for Liverpool?
Best chance out of the lot is probably Coentrao, as long as Chelsea or Tottenham don’t go for him.
