Brendan Rodgers Offers Update On Luis Suarez

Brendan Rodgers wants the situation with Luis Suarez resolved amicably but has warned the striker he wont play again until he shows 100% commitment to the club

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Brendan Rodgers speaks out on Luis Suarez once again.

Luis Suarez Liverpool

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants the situation with Luis Suarez resolved ‘amicably’ but has warned the striker he wont play again until he shows he’s 100% committed to the club.

Reports in Monday mornings newspapers suggested that Suarez was refusing to apologise for publicly declaring his desire to leave Liverpool for Arsenal with the 26-year-old insisting the Merseysiders have reneged on a verbal and written agreement to allow him to leave for a club playing in the Champions League this season.

Liverpool are adamant no agreement is in place and owner John W Henry has categorically ruled out selling the Uruguayan hitman this summer, saying it would be ‘ludicrous’ to sell to Arsenal.

The stand-off has seen Rodgers force Suarez to train alone with neither side willing to back down and while the Reds boss claims he wants the situation resolved amicably, he warned the striker he wont be introduced back in to the squad until he shows he’s fully committed to the cause.

He told the club website:

“It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix.

“There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.

“If you don’t have that commitment, and those standards, then you won’t play. It’s as simple as that.

“If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.

“There’s no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team.

“It doesn’t matter who you are, if they’re not pulling their weight then they are letting down the club, the city and everyone who has stood by them.

“So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100% commitment, then there will be no solution.”

Arsenal are expected to test Liverpool’s resolve with an improved offer this week, despite the Anfield club insisting they wont sell, with Arsene Wenger understood to be confident a deal could still be struck and he’s hoping to hold peace talks with the Mersey outfit soon.

With just three weeks left until the transfer window closes, it’s difficult to see how Liverpool would be able to find a suitable replacement in time unless they’ve already set the wheels in motion.

You are 100% correct Rogers acted in such way that now there is no room to negotiate.
If they do not give Suarez play hours during the year Liverpool will brake a contract.
Suarez is training with a personal trainer getting full pay and he will have plenty international football time playing for Uruguay

Arseniel, u are a bigger fool for thinking that suarez would go to a club filled with trophy-barren fools like arsenal. Tell wenger 2 go and look for his class of players like giroud etc.

If Liverpool do not finish in the top 4 this year Rogers will be in trouble and Suarez playing for the club of his choice.

Rogers, u can force a horse to the river but u can’t force it to drink water. If u like keep Suarez there at Liverpool, u will never get the best out of him again.

Hilarious Arsenal fans. When he was abusing and biting people you were all over these blogs calling for him to be sent to the other side of the world. I think you guys need to realise that he wont be going to Arsenal. The Liverpool owner ruthlessly sacked the greatest icon of Liverpool Football club and yet when he says he wont sell to Arsenal under any circumstances, u somehow think he is joking? Gee, talk about deluded.

Look I’m an Arsenal fan but the smugness of some Gooners is tiresome. Yes he wants out of Liverpool but Suarez wants Real Madrid and he’ll drop us like a hot potato if and when they come calling.

Absolutely right. Football fans are delusional in that they think the players have the same loyalty to the club as the fans do.

Brendan Rodgers lays down the law….It would obviously take a world class manager to get Pool back to what they were. He couldn’t manage Reading….hahaha…ooh let’s make Liverpool the new Swansea…he’d be out of his depth n a puddle

    August 12, 2013 at 1:19 pm

In Liverpool we trust, Why are arsenal looking for a player bigger than them.. I dont think any World Class player like Suarez, Benzema or Rooney will join an 8yrs trophyless club. See how Higuain fooled arsenal. That is what Rodgers will do to them.

It’s obvious that Liverpool would sell Suarez. Liverpool are only trying to get much more money while also hoping for another (better) suitor. If not, how do you think Wenger would want to spend £50m on a player. I don’t think Liverpool are so dullard not to know that keeping Suarez at all cost is detrimental to the club

It wil be wise, if Arsenal fans who r callin Rogers a fool 2 advice Wenger 2 bring out dat £55m & secure dere drm striker…Or go & look 4 a £40 & 1 striker…Bcoz, r not goin 2 sel him cheap.

Note: Arsenal wil not cross Fernabache…

Brender Rodgers should allow suarez to leave. Where lies the loyalty when Rodgers left Swansea. When he still has three years on his contract. He left Swansea because of money and suarez cannot see champion leg football at Liverpool that is why he wanted out from Liverpool after the promised they made to him last year when juventus made an offer for him. Liverpool promised him champion leg football but they couldn’t quality. Suarez will be a better if he joins arsenal.

Arsenal fans are blind to see the truth……what goes around will surely comes around…..he doesn’t have passion for arsenal….only want to use it as a steppingstone to Madrid…..and Liverpool will be a big looser if they sell him now….cos he won’t goes for anything less than 80m next season

    August 12, 2013 at 4:28 pm

I think it is high time they leave the player alone and let him decide for himself where he want to go to

Liverpool should just accept defeat and let him go, even if u have Suarez for another season you will still end up 8th so let him go! fools

Personally I would let the rat go,but on the terms of the club, if we dont get the price we want or the club we would like to sell him to , not Arsenal, let him sit it out on the bench until he apologises, if he does not perform stick him in the b team, come Christmas he will still be worth the money, get rid of the scum then.

Brendan rodgers you should know your not doing the best for liver pool cos you can’t keep a player where hes not happy and at the same time expecting the best from him ok.
