With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Chelsea and Manchester United look set to miss out on Samuel Eto’o while Liverpool target Mamadou Sakho wants a move to AC Milan.

Eto’o to stay at Anzhi

First up and the Metro are reporting that Chelsea and Manchester United target Samuel Eto’o is to remain with current club Anzhi Makhachkala this summer despite reports suggesting he’d been put up for sale.

Widespread reports last earlier in the month suggested that the entire Anzhi squad had been made available for transfer after the owner decided to cut the clubs wage bill following years of lavish spending.

The Metro claim that Chelsea and Manchester United have shown a keen interest in bringing the 32-year-old to the Premier League this summer with Eto’o previously quoted as saying he’d love to link up with former boss Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

However, the duo look set to be disappointed with Anzhi coach Gadzhi Gadzhiev revealing that the striker has agreed to remain in Russia.

‘Eto’o will stay,’

‘He has reached an agreement with the owner and will continue his career with Anzhi.’ Gadzhiev is quoted as saying in the Metro.

The news may come as a particular blow to Blues boss Mourinho, with the newspaper report suggesting that Eto’o was seen as the Portuguese coach’s fall-back option if the club are unsuccessful in trying to sign Wayne Rooney.

Sakho wants AC Milan move

Next up and the Express are reporting that Liverpool could be set to miss out on another target with defender Mamadou Sakho having ‘his heart set’ on a move to AC Milan.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has brought in experienced defender Kolo Toure this summer to replace Jamie Carragher but the newspaper suggests he’s keen to bring in another option at the back with the future of Martin Skrtel still up in the air.

Sakho has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks with PSG coach Laurent Blanc confirming the 23-year-old has asked to leave the club this summer.

“It is true that Mamadou expressed his desire to find a new club,”

“The position of the club is clear. Until September 2, the situation will evolve; there will be time to find a solution that suits both parties.” Blanc is quoted as saying in the Express.

However, the Express suggest that Sakho has ‘his heart set’ on a move to AC Milan, with the Italian giants also understood to be keen on signing the powerful French international. The newspaper offers no quotes to support this claim though, so there may yet be hope for Liverpool fans.
