Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Eyes Shock Madrid Raid | Defender Move Ruled Out

Latest Arsenal transfer rumours. Today, the Gunners are linked with a shock move for Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas while Micah Richards is staying at Man City.

With the summer transfer window now open, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest Arsenal transfer rumours. Today, we’re linked with a shock move for Iker Casillas while Micah Richards is staying at Man City.

Wenger eyes Csasillas

First up and the Daily Mail are one of several news outlets who are reporting that Arsenal are considering a shock move for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be keen on bringing in an experienced stopper as competition for the unconvincing Wojciech Szczesny and Casillas is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates.

The 32-year-old Spanish legend has endured a difficult time of things at the Bernabeu over the last year, with Jose Mourinho relegating him to the bench during the second half of last season.

He was expected to be reinstated as No.1 under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, however the Italian surprisingly named Deigo Lopez in goal for Madrid’s La Liga opener on Sunday against Real Betis.

The Mail claim Casillas is now unsettled at the club and Arsenal are weighing-up a shock move to try and bring him to north London, with the newspaper suggesting Madrid may be prepared to do business at around £15m.

I personally don’t see anything coming of this as I fully expect him to win back his place in the Real Madrid starting eleven, and to suggest Casillas is only worth £15m is laughable. He’s arguably the best goalkeeper on the planet.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love Arsenal to sign him, but I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up.

Richards staying

Next up and the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal are set to miss out on another transfer target with Manchester City ruling out the sale of defender Micah Richards.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on bringing in reinforcements at the back and the Star claim we made an enquiry over the availability of Richards. The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Etihad and with just two years left on his City contract, it was suggested he could be available this summer.

However, the report says that City have made it clear the former Leeds United defender is still in their plans and they have no intention of selling him any time soon.

This is a shame as I’d have loved to see Richards join Arsenal. His versatility would have been a real asset as we desperately need someone who can fill in across the back-line. If we can’t get Richards, I’d like to see us move for PSG’s Sakho, but let’s see what the boss brings us in the next 10 days.
