Willian: In his Shakhtar days

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has subtly confirmed today that attacker Willian has opted to move to Stamford Bridge over London rivals Tottenham, according to several reports today.

The 25-year-old forward was on the verge of joining Spurs from Anzhi Makhachkala in a £30m deal after completing a medical on Wednesday afternoon before a late move by Chelsea threatened to derail the transfer.

Reports in this mornings newspapers claimed that Roman Abramovich had made a personal call to the Anzhi owner – fellow Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov – to try and sway the deal in their favour.

It appears he’s been successful with boss Jose Mourinho confirming at his press conference on Friday afternoon that Willian is set to snub a move to White Hart Lane in favour of moving to west London.

The Portuguese coach was asked if Willian was on his radar, to which he replied:

“Willian is a big target, that’s for sure”

‘I couldn’t say much in the previous press conference. I had to try to hide a few things.

The former Real Madrid manager was then asked if Chelsea are now in pole position to sign the attacker.

“I think he’s already made his decision,” Mourinho told ITV

He was asked if his decision was to join Chelsea, and ITV claim Mourinho nodded before saying:

“I don’t like to speak before time because football can be crazy.

“I know what the player wants, so in this moment we cannot hide. That is a possibility.”

Asked about how close Willian came to joining Tottenham, Mourinho couldn’t resist having a little dig saying they should have kept his medical a secret.

“That’s the danger of medicals before contracts. The best thing to do is do the medical in secret.” [Source: Telegraph]

Mourinho was then asked how close a deal was with Chelsea, he continued:

“We have to do a medical!”

So it appears Willian has now turned his back on a move to Spurs in favour of Chelsea – unless there is another late twist! The news will be a bitter blow to Andre Villas-Boas but will represent a major coup for Chelsea, and the Brazilian will now be added to their growing list of big name attackers available to Jose Mourinho.

It seems that William is not an honourable chap. I doubt he will anything to Chelsea except aggro and Spurs and Liverpool will look back and thank the lucky stars. He previously choose Anzi over English clubs so a mercenary will stay until something else comes along.
Good luck Chelsea you will need it as you will not be able to rely on dodgy referees the whole season

Looks like Russian gangsters doing business with each other. The Premiership looks to be full of corrupt and puerile personalities.

Ian the fact remains that we’re bigger and better than any of those teams mention and the ambition of the club coupled with the mourinho factor… Any player would want to play at such club… Which is what willian went for
