The Reds were the better side throughout the opening 45 minutes and Sturridge opened the scoring after jinking his way through the Villa back line before rounding Guzan and slotting home. Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline but that single goal proved decisive and Liverpool made it two wins from two games.
