Tottenham edged past Swansea City 1-0 at White Hart Lane thanks to a second half penalty from record summer signing Roberto Soldado.

After a goalless first half, Spurs were given the chance to open the scoring after Jonjo Shelvey was harshly adjuged to have fouled Andros Townsend in the box, but Soldado made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0.
