Arsenal Ready To Make Ambitious Move For United Target Juan Mata

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is set to make an ambitious move for Chelsea attacker and reported Manchester United target, Juan Mata, according to the Mirror.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Arsenal are ready to move for Juan Mata.

Arsenal are set to make an ambitious move for Chelsea attacker and reported Manchester United target, Juan Mata, according to the Mirror.

The Spaniard’s future at Stamford Bridge has surprisingly come under scrutiny this summer following the return of Jose Mourinho as boss and he was reported to be a shock make-weight in Chelsea’s bid to try and land Wayne Rooney earlier in the summer.

The Mirror claim Mourinho has told new signing Willian that he will make up an attacking trio alongside Eden Hazard and Oscar, and with the Blues also having further attacking talent in Kevin De Bruyne, Andre Schurrle and Victor Moses, the Spaniard could be pushed further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season.

Manchester United were linked with a big-money move for the 25-year-old on Saturday with ESPN suggesting he could be used in a stunning swap deal involving Rooney, but it seems Arsenal are ready to join the chase with the newspaper suggesting that Arsene Wenger wants to prove his ambition in the transfer market by pulling off a sensational swoop for Mata.

The Gunners were close to signing the attacker from Valencia back in 2011 before Chelsea ended up snapping him up for £23.5m, and with frustrations growing at the Emirates due to the lack of big-name signings this summer, Wenger would certainly silence some of his critics if he could lure Mata across London.

Chelsea have insisted all summer that the Spanish international would not be sold but speculation over his future and Mourinho’s faith in the player – or lack of it – refuse to go away, and it seems he will have at least two firm options if the Blues do decide to cash in before the transfer window closes.

Personally, I don’t see Chelsea selling to either Arsenal or United. It’s certainly an intriguing situation regarding Mata, but Mourinho would be seriously questioned by the Stamford Bridge faithful if he sold arguably their best player over the last two years to one of their rivals.

You never know in football, but I just can’t see anything coming of this, despite what the newspapers say.
