Willian: In his Shakhtar days
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Brazilian attacker Willian on a five-year deal after he was granted a work permit on Wednesday.
The Blues agreed a deal – believed to be worth £32m – with Anzhi Makhachkala last week for the 25-year-old after making a late bid to hijack Tottenham’s move for the player.
He completed his medical over the weekend but the move to Stamford Bridge was delayed as he had to apply for ‘special talent’ work permit as he’s only got 2 senior caps to his name, but that permit has now been granted with the Daily Mail claiming boss Jose Mourinho gave evidence on behalf of the player.
Upon completing his move, Willian told Chelsea’s official website:
‘I’m very happy to be here, it’s been a dream of mine to come and play here.
‘Chelsea are one of the best clubs in the world, and now I’m going to play for one of the best managers in the world, so I’m very happy and looking forward to it.’
The former Shakhtar Donetsk winger will wear the No.22 shirt but is not in the squad to face Bayern Munich in Friday’s European Super Cup so he’ll have to wait until after the international break to make his debut for the club, with the Blues next fixture away at Everton on September 14th.
Willian will now join the array of attacking talent available to Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and will compete with the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Kevin De Bruyne and Victor Moses for a starting spot.

Despite the fact that William is a terrific player, I think the acquisition of numerous attacking midfielder is going to cause under utilization of these players… All that been said, I am glad to see william become a Chelsea player.
