Gareth Bale Transfer Saga: A Twitter Timeline

Gareth Bale is edging closer to his world record move from Spurs to Madrid. Here’s a timeline of how things have developed on Twitter over the past few weeks.

The Gareth Bale transfer drama seems to have reached its pinnacle. The current reports of Bale going to Madrid are staggering. The transfer cost is reported to be in excess of £80million which would make it the highest transfer of all time.

If Madrid were so inclined they could use that money to buy football boots for 2 million children in cash strapped Spain! With talks being said to be in advanced stages a move to the Bernabeu looks imminent. The price tag of £80+million is a staggering amount of money that is hard to justify even with Bale carrying Tottenham last year.

The 24-year-old is coming off his best year as a professional where he bagged 21 goals in 33 matches to earn the PFA Player of the Year award.  The Welshman’s market worth has never been higher and for Spurs this is the prime time to cash in. His detractors are quick to point out that prior to the previous season he only managed 9 goals in all competitions which is hardly the mark of an £80million man.

While they would be losing the best player in their side, the amount the north Londoners are set to get from the transfer fee alone has allowed them to buy another 5 or 6 players. Manager Andre Villas-Boas has already strengthened his side by bringing in Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela and Vlad Chiriches, with further additions on the horizon. Even with the loss of Bale, Spurs look a far stronger squad and are now more than capable of challenging for the top four.

With all the ups and downs in this story one can’t be sure that Bale has finally transferred until his unveiling in the Bernabeu. With people quick to jump the gun on reporting the transfer it’s difficult to know exactly what stage we are at. Stay tuned because in the Gareth Bale Transfer Saga, nothing is certain.
