Arsenal vs Tottenham: Predicted Line-Ups For The North London Derby

Arsenal welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the first north London derby of the new season. Here are predicted teams.

Arsenal welcome fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the first north London derby of the new season.

The Gunners have recovered from a disastrous start that saw them lose 3-1 at home to Aston Villa with a hat-trick of victories over Fenerbache (twice) and Fulham. However, the fans are continuing to wait for the big name signings they’ve been promised this summer and the squad has been decimated by a spate of injuries to Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thomas Vermaelen and Lukas Podolski.

French midfielder Mathieu Flamini re-joined the club on Thursday and is eligible to play, but the 29-year-old is only likely to make bench.

Tottenham on the other hand have invested heavily in their squad this summer with Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela joining Etienne Capoue, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Nacer Chadli in making the move to White Hart Lane today.

The latest additions aren’t expected to feature from the start on Sunday, but Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho and Capoue are all likely to make their derby debuts.

Here are my predicted line-ups for the game:

football formations

Arsenal’s starting eleven still looks extremely competitive but they will have very little firepower in reserve with only Yaya Sanogo and youngsters Serge Gnabry and Ryo Miyaichi offering Arsene Wenger attacking options from the bench.

Tottenham have a very powerful looking team but it remains to be seen how the new signings will cope in the heat of a north London derby. Andre Villas-Boas is going to have a lot more options to call upon if needed, with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jermain Defoe, Emmanuel Adebayor and Aaron Lennon all providing viable options from the substitutes bench.

Do you agree with these line-ups? What would be your line-up? Share your views below.

Arsenal’s familiarity gives them the edge in the starting line-up but Spurs definitely have a better bench (and you didn’t mention Lamela). Late Spurs goal to earn a draw.

Arsenal all day (any day) Spurs have no doubt bought well and have a squad capable of top four and higher, but we have an established team, players who have bled for the shirt, Ramsey nearly lost a leg (and will I think dictate the pace of the game) Kos and Gibbs both sporting deep facial scars. It’s a while since you could say you would want to go into battle with an Arsenal team but we have some steel to add to the skill.

My heart says a rousing win for Tottenham but my head says we’ll edge a draw or lose by one. Tottenham I believe will finish higher but I think Arsenals first team is established and very strong. The middle of the park makes for an intriguing battle with the doubtless class of Ramsey and Wiltshire battling against a formidable human wall of Capoue (who I believe will be one of our shrewdest purchases in recent years), the occasionally exceptional Dembele, and paulinho who I expect to make a real impact. Add the beast that is Sandro and Tottenham have the steel to hold Arsenal at bay and maybe sneak a cheeky one goal win. A red card wouldn’t surprise me but I can’t wait for the action.

Arsenal will win the match through Rosicky, he is certainly more creative than paulinho.. Tottenham are fielding to an extent 3 deep laying mf who lack creativity. So i think that would be the key for arsenal

Got a feeling Spurs are going to wipe this one maybe 3-1. Then they also have the squad to mount a decent title challenge probably ending in a top 3/4 finish. We, meanwhile will be frantically trying to sign ‘top top quality’ in January and then beating Liverpool by one point on the final day of the season to gain Thursday cup action and celebrating it like a cup win.
Hate to be one of the negatives that I usually knock but you simply cannot just stand still and watch other teams strengthen if you expect to progress as well.

if Wenger should sign Kalou then it will for sure be said that he has lost his pride or panic buy. May i ask, what concern him with the transfer business of Spurs?. He rather face his own ill luck tranfer policies that is degrading the values of Arsenal. He wouldn’t panic buy but he is going for Kalou, i wonder how tuesday morning would be like. Am sure is doing all of these because this might be his last season at arsenal, may God deliver we the fans from Arsene Wenger the enemy of progress and fowler.

We(Tottenham) have a better squad. But Arsenal are a good team and we’re travelling to their stadium, so it won’t be a easy game for either team.I very much doubt it will be another 5-2 humiliation,i think Spurs will just about win. Arsenal 2-3 Tottenham
A Better Line Up Would Be
    GK-Lloris
    RB-Walker
    CB’s- Kaboul-Vertonghen
    LB-Rose
    CDM’s-Paulinho-Sandro
    RW-Lamela
    CAM-Dembele
    LW-Townsend
    ST-Soldado
Our Team won’tbe too unbalanced as Wenger said it would be, there’s 3 new players in that team i just said, and 2 of them have played extremely well in the opening 4 games of the season(including Europa League), and the 3rd will be making his debut.
I Think we’ll also finish above Arsenal. unless they bring in atleast 3 world class players, which i doubt will happen with 2 days left.
