By on August 31, 2013

As we enter the final stages of the summer transfer window, there is plenty of gossip doing the rounds in the newspapers so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest transfer rumours. Today, Liverpool are closing in on four new signings.

Liverpool are trying to push through £25m worth of deals for Thiago Ilori, Mamadou Sakho, Shay Given and Victor Moses before the transfer window slams shut on Monday night, according to the Telegraph.

Boss Brendan Rodgers has already been active in the market bringing in five new faces but it doesn’t look like he’s finished with four more additions in his sight.

The report claims defenders Ilori and Sakho are expected on Merseyside today to undergo medicals ahead of £8m and £15m moves from Sporting Lisbon and PSG respectively, but their arrivals will not see the out-of-favour Martin Skrtel sold despite interest from Napoli.

Cover for Simon Mignolet is also believed to be on the agenda with the Telegraph suggesting Rodgers is close to agreeing a deal with Aston Villa for veteran stopper Shay Given – who has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park and will move to Anfield on a short-term contract for a nominal fee.

The last piece of business on the cards is strengthening the attack and the newspaper says Liverpool  are deep in negotiations with Chelsea for winger Moses, who is likely to make the move north on a season long loan deal that will set the Reds back around £2m.

The quadruple swoop will finalise a huge overhaul at Anfield with the new additions joining Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Aly Cissokho, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas in making the move to Liverpool this summer, as Rodgers tries to build a squad capable of challenging for the top four this season.

Good defensive additions, but Moses? Is this Chelsea reserve loanee the ‘exciting’ type of signing that Rodgers promised? The lack of top quality attacking signings will consign Liverpool to also rans again. FSG have a lot to answer for.

I’ve been following this great club for almost 40 years now.I used to get elated when we won, felt low when we lost and of course ribbed Utd fans whenever I could. Sadly, winning/losing doesn’t stir emotion in me anymore. I guess I’ve been hoping beyond hope that some glory would be restored.
FSG, listen up – You guys don’t seem to get it, So let me spell it out -THIS IS A FOOTBALL CLUB FIRST AND LAST if you want to invest to generate return then PLEASE sell our beloved club to someone that loves football and go find another capital venture. We need to invest in the team and stop kidding ourselves with bargain basement players. We cannot expect to challenge for (wait for it) Honours without top talent – simple as, end of!!!

Really dont understand FSG or this Shay Given being linked with LFC…
First we were told Mignolet is competition for Reina, then Reina is loaned out!!
Explanation was Reina’s loan purely financial..we’re aiming to save £5m+ a year in wages.. Now we’re propising to buy a keeper who has 3yrs left on his contract amd on £60k per week..
If their was an emergency why not recall Reina?
And if we’re adamant he is no longer wanted why not just sell him?? £10m+ or therabouts plus wages saved we could afford another player!! Thought we’d learnt from the Aquilani Saga..obviously not!!

What about a DM, backup or not of Lucas? I thoughtthat the rumored signing of Papadopoulos could solve this hole cause he plays both the positions of CB and DM

Hey Bash. Looking at your comment I had this urge to reply. Just imagine a top keeper like Reina or bench or the other way round with Reina conceeding easy goal and Mignolet on bench. They have to say someone is backup until the deal is final and everyone knew Reina would go when Mignolet deal was done. It was never a surprise. And about selling you don’t always get a good price. So the deal is probably done with a loan plus a buyout clause(good transfer fee promised)

Mignolet is good biz, Given is weird biz, Reina is dumb biz. Fsg is toying with our emotions. If they dont have money, they should sell the club to the oil merchants who wanted to buy the club earlier on… Rodgers is trying his Best, must he musnt be that dumb
