Liverpool welcome champions Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday afternoon looking to maintain their 100% start to the new season.

The Reds have recorded successive 1-0 victories over Stoke City and Aston Villa in the league but they were taken to extra time by Notts County in the League Cup on Tuesday, eventually progressing to the third round after a 4-2 win.

The game will mark 100 years since the birth of legendary Liverpool boss Bill Shankly and no doubt the Reds will be desperate to get one over their fierce rivals on such an occasion.

United arrive off the back of a 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday and new boss David Moyes will take charge of his first match against Liverpool as United manager having never won at Anfield during his time at Everton, so he’ll be looking to put that right on Sunday.

Team News

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of defender Kolo Toure after he picked up a groin injury during Tuesday’s win over Notts County. The injury isn’t as bad as first feared and boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful the experienced defender will pass a late fitness test. Martin Skrtel is on stand-by to fill in after recovering from a knee injury.

Aly Cissokho and Jose Allen are certain to miss out after picking up injuries in midweek, and Luis Suarez continues to serve his 10-match ban meaning the in-form Daniel Sturridge will continue to lead the attack.

Manchester United have a major doubt over Wayne Rooney after he injured his head in training. The striker put in an excellent display against Chelsea on Monday so Moyes will give him every chance to prove his fitness.

Phil Jones is expected to play despite picking up a minor back injury last week. Moyes has no other injury concerns to worry about with Rafael the only long-term absentee.

Berendan Rodgers is a type of man that is not specific in what he want, knowing fully well that Toure and Coates is not fit and will not be available for a crucial match.a good and wise manager should try to finalize a deal for another defender immidiatly after the match with north county.let see what tomorrow match will bring.

I think the fate of Livpool in this match would depend heavily on the ability of Coutinho to rule the midfield.

BR is a confuse manager, and i owe nobody any appology 4 saying that,hw can a coach leave his team 2 be at d mercy of their arch rival, knwin full well that we don’t have a cover up in defend since tuesday he failed 2 sign a defender, he is always hoping and hoping nt proactive.last season liverpool failed 2 take any point against united due 2 defensive lapses, does it mean that he watches the sreen in the stadia nt the players for him nt 2 recognise that we are nt gud enough compared with our competitors esp tothenham . When will he act and redeem tis club, every season we always hope and pray 4 top 4 finish why our so called manager feels as if he is obnovous of wht is happening. Pls sign players, we realy need reinforcement, believe me wit the sqaurd we have so far we can’t challange wit the likes of man u, man city, chelsea, arsenal, tothenham etc bcus we lack qaulities,we can’t keep relyin on coutinho or suarez every time.He signed luis alberto and put him on the bench bcus he knws that the guy is nt ripe 4 first 11, why signin alberto when we had Suso, sold Downing when he has nt gottn a replacement, morever is it wrong or bad if we have 2 players in each position?. am yet 2 so the competition and depth he always talks abt. so am nt mistakin 2 say he is confuse and lack experience to manage a club like liverpool.
