Arsene Wenger has confirmed he plans to speak with Jack Wilshere after the midfielder was pictured smoking a cigarette outside a nightclub.

The Arsenal boss was forced to answer questions about Wilshere at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning ahead of Sunday’s trip to face West Bromwich Albion.

Wenger confirmed he plans to have talks with the youngster as he fears the players reputation will be tarnished by doing such things in the public eye. Smoking is widely accepted to be an unhealthy habit as tobacco is addictive and has hugely damaging effects on the body, so it’s no wonder Wenger isn’t happy to see one of his star players smoking on a night out.

While the Gunners boss was left unimpressed by the photos, he refused to reveal if he will hand out any internal punishment to the 21-year-old.

‘I disagree completely with that behaviour, ‘I need to have a chat with him about that.

‘You don’t do what damages your health as a footballer. You damage your reputation when you do that in public.’

‘I don’t know what happened so I can’t talk about any punishment.’ Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Wilshere recently became a father for the second time after his girlfriend, Lauren Neal, gave birth to a baby girl last week. While smoking should hardly be considered as the end of the world, it’s certainly not the kind of thing a professional footballer and role model should be caught doing so freely.
