Mourinho Planning £50m Double January Swoop
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is planning a £50million double swoop for Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula and Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala in January.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with a £50 double swoop.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is planning a £50m double swoop for Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula and Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala when the transfer window re-opens in January, according to the Metro.
The Blues have made a steady start to life under Mourinho this season and currently sit joint second in the Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Arsenal.
However, it seems the Portuguese coach is not satisfied with his squad and is planning on strengthening this winter with a £50m spending spree on the cards for two highly-rated young talents.
A new centre-back appears to be a priority for Mourinho with the Metro suggesting he’s ready to enter serious negotiations for former Manchester United target Mangala, who has been putting in some fine displays for Porto over the past 18 months.
The 22-year-old has a £37m buy-out clause in his contract but the report claims the Blues are confident they could sign the French international for nearer £25m, with him viewed as a long-term successor to John Terry at Stamford Bridge.
Defensive midfield is also believed to be an area of concern, with John Obi Mikel seemingly falling out-of-favour this season, and the newspaper says that Mourinho is also prepared to splash £25m on Marseille’s 20-year-old Giannelli Imbula.
The powerful midfielder only joined Marseille in the summer though so it seems highly unlikely the French outfit will be prepared to sell him already, although an offer of around £25m may prove too much to resist considering he cost them under £7m just 3 months ago.
