Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Chelsea are linked with Lazar Markovic.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is looking to further strengthen his squad with top young talent and has his eye on Benfica winger Lazar Markovic, according to the Mirror.

The 19-year-old Serbian starlet was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer before eventually joining Benfica from Partizan Belgrade on a long-term contract.

However, reports claim that Jose Mourinho has continued to monitor his progress this season and will have been impressed by what he’s seen so far, with the winger scoring 3 goals in his 6 appearances in Portugal.

The Blues appear to be concentrating their efforts on bringing in up-and-coming talent and have recently confirmed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Bertrand Traore. The Mirror suggests that Mourinho will continue to pursue top young players and is now keen to land Markovic, despite the fact he only recently joined Benfica.

The player has previously admitted his love for the Premier League, calling it the ‘ideal stage’, so he could be open to a move if Chelsea do come calling:

“A lot of people say that maybe I’m not suited to the English league. But I can tell you that I love the Premier League and I see it as an ideal stage for me.” Markovic is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

He’s already a full Serbian international and judging by the highlights below, he’d get the Stamford Bridge faithful off their seats if he did make the move to Chelsea.
