Arsenal & Liverpool Battle For Saints Hitman
Arsenal and Liverpool are two clubs who are keeping a close eye on Southampton’s rising star Jay Rodriguez – who earned his first England call-up last week.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Jay Rodriguez.
Arsenal and Liverpool are two clubs who are keeping a close eye on Southampton’s rising star Jay Rodriguez, according to the Mirror.
The 24-year-old has been one of a number of stand-out performers for the Saints over the last 16 months since joining from Burnley, and was rewarded for his fine form with his first ever call-up to the England squad last week.
It seems it’s not just Roy Hodgson who’s been impressed by the forward’s performances as the Mirror claim that both Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers are showing a keen interest in luring him away from St Mary’s.
The newspaper suggests that Liverpool made enquiries for Rodriguez in the summer when they were looking for potential replacements for the unsettled Luis Suarez and Rodgers has continued to keep an eye on his progress in fear that the Uruguayan may leave at the end of the season.
However, the Merseysiders may face stiff competition from Arsenal if they do try and buy Rodriguez with the report claiming that Wenger has instructed his network of scouts to watch the forward as he prepares to add to his striker force this winter.
Southampton are unlikely to welcome any interest in the player though and chairman Nicola Cortese will do all he can to resist the temptation to cash in, with the Saints flying high in the Premier League this season and looking a team very-much heading in the right direction.
