Will Hughes: In demand

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of sealing a major coup by beating Manchester United and Arsenal to the signing of highly-rated Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, according to the Express.

The report claims that Hughes has been a long-term target for Rodgers, Arsene Wenger and David Moyes with all three keeping a close eye on his progress over the last 18 months.

The trio would have been impressed by what they’ve seen with the 18-year-old excelling at the heart of Derby’s midfield, and he’s already scored 4 goals in 18 games this season with his fine form earning him 5 caps for the England Under-21’s.

Derby are understandably desperate to keep hold of their star man to aid their promotion push this season but the Express claim that despite intense competition from Arsenal and United, Liverpool will sign Hughes for £12m in January after agreeing to meet the Rams asking price.

If these reports are true, it will come as a huge boost to Rodgers to get one over his rivals as the Northern Irishman looks to maintain Liverpool’s positive start to the season that sees them currently sit second in the table.

However, as with all transfer news, it’s best to take things with a pinch of salt until we hear something official from the clubs involved.
