Tottenham have been hit by a huge injury blow after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months, will their lack of creativity be exposed even further now?

Tottenham have been hit by a huge injury blow after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months after picking up an ankle injury while away with Denmark last week.

The 21-year-old suffered the ligament injury during Friday’s clash with Norway and it was initially hoped he may only miss 2 months. However, it’s emerged the problem is worse than first thought and Spurs will now be without the former Ajax man for 3 months meaning he’ll miss a large portion of the season.

Andre Villas-Boas has seen his re-vamped squad struggle to score goals so far this season, so to lose one of his most creative players comes as a huge blow.

Eriksen arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer along with the likes of Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado hoping to fill the creative void left by Gareth Bale, but the attacking players have struggled to gel and it’s left the north Londoners with one of the lowest goal-scoring tally’s in the Premier League.

Spurs have scored just 9 goals in their 11 league games so far with only Sunderland and Crystal Palace – the divisions bottom two clubs – scoring fewer. Thankfully, because they boast the second meanest defence, Spurs have still enjoyed a relatively positive start to the season and sit just 5 points off leaders Arsenal.

However, the lack of creativity remains a worry for AVB and the loss of Eriksen is only going to compound their problems.

Many fans have pointed out that without some fortuitous penalty decisions going their way, Tottenham would find themselves in even deeper trouble. Usually this type of argument is one that cannot be settled over a quick pint with your mates down the pub, but thanks to the guys over at bwin, we now have a website where such arguments can be settled in a matter of minutes.

Bwin have created a very useful site called League Of Your Own where at the click of a button, we can see exactly what the Premier League would look like if Spurs hadn’t been awarded those contentious penalties.

League Of Your Own allows you to create hypothetical scenarios based on a number of factors (such as the time a game ends, removing penalties, removing goals from a certain player, etc) and you can filter your results to see what the table would look like based on your chosen criteria.

Using this website, we can see that worryingly for Tottenham fans, the club would be four points worse off and sit 11th in the table if the penalty calls went against them. They would now have scored just 6 goals from open play and be as close to the bottom of the table than they are to the top.

This highlights just how poor Spurs have been going forward this season and the loss of a creative talent such as Eriksen is only going to make matters worse over the coming weeks.

Are Spurs fans worried about the lack of creativity in the team? Will you miss Eriksen? Share your views below.
