Suarez Offered To Real Madrid In January To Prevent Him Joining Arsenal

By on November 20, 2013

Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, have Liverpool offered Luis Suarez to Real Madrid?

Some interesting reports coming out of Spain today with Marca claiming that Liverpool have offered Real Madrid the chance to sign Luis Suarez in January in order to prevent him joining Arsenal.

The future of Suarez filled the back pages throughout the summer after the Uruguayan hitman went public with his desire to leave Liverpool in order to play Champions League football.

Arsenal were pushing hard to try and lure him to the Emirates and saw two bids rejected by the Merseysiders, with the Reds owners insisting their star man wouldn’t be sold at any price.

Reports have suggested in recent weeks that Arsenal and Real Madrid have maintained their interest in the 26-year-old but it always appeared unlikely that Liverpool would agree to sell.

However, Spanish outlet Marca tell a very different story. They claim that Liverpool had agreed to sell the striker to Madrid in the summer with Pere Guardiola – Suarez’s agent – said to have agreed personal terms after a €45m fee was agreed between the clubs. Apparently the only thing that prevented the deal going through was that Madrid didn’t tie up the purchase of Gareth Bale and sell Mesut Ozil quickly enough to leave them time to seal the Suarez transfer.

The newspaper also states that Suarez has “once again been offered to the Bernabeu club” with the Daily Star claiming they are doing so to prevent the striker from joining Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer.

It all sounds hugely unlikely and it’s most probably Marca trying to use their influence to rock the boat in the Suarez camp. The newspaper is notorious for using underhand tactics to sway transfers in Madrid’s favour. You only have to look at what they did in the summer with the Gareth Bale saga to know that.

The idea that Liverpool are actively seeking to sell Suarez is preposterous. He is the heart beat of their team and they made it abundantly clear in the summer that they weren’t selling to any club, at any price, and I doubt that stance has changed over the past few weeks – particularly after Brendan Rodgers side have made such a positive start to the season.

So I say ignore what Marca are reporting, there is very little chance we’ll see Suarez join Madrid, Arsenal, or any other club this January. The summer may be a different story, especially if Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League, but for now he’ll remain an Anfield Red.

I am pleased that you added the last 3 paras to this article. This is absolute nonsense. Arsenal know that they are not a big enough club to draw Suarez away from Liverpool and they couldn’t afford him. Suarez will be going nowhere in January and certainly not for £40m. This was the price for a troubled striker who was under a ban, with 1 good season in the Prem. If he keeps his nose clean and finishes the season how he has started it, he will go to either Barca, Real Madrid or Bayern as they are the only clubs who are big enough to match his ambitions and who can afford him. It will probably eclipse Bales transfer fee when it happens.

You are out of your mind. Arsenal are more than big enough for Suarez who has languished at a “has been” club like Liverpool. In fact Arsenal have better money muscle than both spanish clubs.

James, on the latest forbes rich list of football clubs, arsenal come forth after R Madrid, ManU, and Barca in that order in a list where livepool a distant 10th. so when you suggest they couldn’t afford him I wonder what kind of stuff you are ‘smoking’. you pick and choose randomnly what club can afford him as if that alone is enough, why? the mere fact that arsenal have had far far bigger players than suarez in the form of viera, henry, begkamp and now ozil clearly shows you are simply clutching at straws trying to dissuade suarez from leaving your club. as the writer states above, fail to qualify for CL and kiss suarez were big in the eighties, not any more.

Not a big enough club. Liverpool were in the 2nd division not so long ago while Arsenal WILL celebrate 100 continuous years in the top flight in 2017. That’s the sign of real big club in the biggest city in Europe not some has-been-never-will-be-again tin pot operation from a little province who got lucky passing the ball back to the goalkeeper at every opportunity and fluked a few European Cups when the rest of Europe were on their knees. Everton are a bigger club than Liverpool…

Arsene Wenger should learn from this if at the end of the day Liverpool didn’t sell Suarez to Arsenal and I don’t see any reason why we sell our top player to rival club and to come back to haunt their club

By febuary Saurex will still be in liverpool. The only thing that will bring Suarex to arsenal is only if liverpool did not qualify for champion league and madrid are not able to meet liverpool’s demand. Up gunners.
