Arsenal beat Southampton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Satuday afternoon thanks to a brace from striker Olivier Giroud.
The Gunners took the lead midway through the first half when Olivier Giroud harassed Artur Boruc enough to force him into a mistake and the French striker stroked the ball into the empty net. Giroud then sealed the win with a late penalty after Per Mertesacker was pulled back in the box by Fonte.
The win ensured Arsenal took full advantage of Liverpool dropping points against Everton earlier in the day, and now boast a four point lead at the top of the league.
