Chelsea's Juan Mata

Juan Mata wants talks with boss Jose Mourinho over his long-term future with the playmaker concerned his lack of playing time will see him miss out on a place at next summers World Cup, according to the Mirror.

Mata was Chelsea’s player of the year in both 2012 and 2013 before Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge, and he’s seen first team football harder to come by under to Portuguese coach – who has opted to use Oscar in the No.10 role behind the striker this season after questioning Mata’s work-rate.

The 25-year-old was once again among the subs this weekend and had to watch on as Oscar scored one and set up another during a 3-0 win over West Ham at Upton Park.

The Mirror claim Mata is now becoming unsettled as his concerns grow over whether his lack of regular action at Stamford Bridge will see him miss out on a spot in Spain’s highly-competitive World Cup squad, and he could now look for a short-term move in January to boost his chances of making it to Brazil.

The newspaper suggests the player wants to hold talks with Mourinho over his future, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid ready to offer him a six-month loan deal for the rest of the season if it’s decided a move away is best for both parties.

However, it’s highly-unlikely Mourinho would agree to let one of his most creative players leave half-way through the season. Chelsea are still in four competitions and Mata could still be an important player for the club during the second half of the campaign.
