Chelsea have delayed their pursuit of Mario Balotelli until the summer with the striker set to remain with AC Milan until after the 2014 World Cup, according to reports in Italy.

The controversial striker has been linked with a move back to the Premier League in recent months after a mixed time with Milan since moving back to Serie A from Manchester City 12 months ago, with Chelsea reportedly in the running.

However, Corriere dello Sport claims Balotelli has decided to remain at the San Siro until the end of the season in order to ensure he keeps his place in the Italian World Cup squad, and will only review his future after Brazil 2014.

The Italian newspaper suggests that Chelsea will renew their interest in the 26-year-old this summer and hold talks over a potential switch to Stamford Bridge, where he would have the chance to once again link with up former boss Jose Mourinho.

The Blues boss worked with Balotelli during their time at Inter Milan but it appears he has decided to wait until the end of the season before making his move after confirming last week that a new striker is not considered a priority in January.

The Portuguese coach has taken the decision not to add to his strike-force this month despite the fact his current crop of front-men have struggled for goals so far this campaign, with Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba all failing to produce the goods on a regular basis.
