Tottenham Hotspur play host to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon looking to close in on the top four of the Premier League.

Ahead of the game, boss Tim Sherwood has been speaking to the media at his press conference this afternoon and gave TottenhamHotspur.com a team news and injury update.

The good news for Spurs is that Jermain Defoe, Lewis Holtby, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andros Townsend are all back in contention having returned from injury to take part in full training this week.

Defoe has missed Tottenham’s last five games with a hamstring injury but could feature just days after confirming he’s agreed a deal to join MLS side Toronto FC, although he’s likely to start on the bench with Sherwood expected to stick with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado up front.

Townsend has also missed the last four weeks with a hamstring strain but could come back into the side along with Holtby – who has recovered from a knee problem that’s seen him miss the last three fixtures – and Sigurdsson, who has overcome a niggling calf complaint.

However, Spurs will continue to be without the services of centre-back Younes Kaboul (thigh) and midfielder Sandro (hamstring), despite the pair returning to training, while Jan Vertonghen and Paulinho remain on the sidelines with ankle injuries.

Sherwood told the clubs official website:

“Andros, Gylfi, Lewis and Jermain are all back in contention,”

“Younes isn’t ready yet and Sandro, Paulinho and Jan Vertonghen are all out.

“We’ve done well in our Premier League programme and we want to keep that going. The more players we get back and raring to go, the better for us.”

Spurs head into the weekend action sitting sixth in the Premier League table following their 2-1 win over Manchester United on New Year’s Day and victory over Palace tomorrow could see them climb into the top four ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Stoke on Sunday.
