Arsenal appear to be widening their search for a new striker with the agent of Sebastian Giovinco confirming that the Gunners have been in touch to enquire about the players availability, according to Goal.

The 26-year-old has fallen out-of-favour at Juventus this season with the likes of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente ahead of him in the pecking order, leading to speculation he could seek a move this month to boost his chances of making the Italian World Cup squad.

It seems Arsenal have shown an interest in offering him an escape route from Turin with the diminutive forward’s agent, Claudio Pasqualin, revealing that the north Londoners have been in touch to ‘request information’.

However,  while Pasqualin admits it’s flattering for Giovinco to attract interest in his services, he’s insisted the attacker will be remaining to Juventus:

“Giovinco and Arsenal? There is a request for information but not an interest that goes beyond that,”

“The occasion, however, it is useful to reiterate that Sebastian will remain at Juventus.

“It’s nice there are interests of this type but they are destined to remain as such.” Pasqualin is quoted as saying by Goal

Arsenal are certainly short of options up front at present following injuries to Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott and Giovinco could have been a useful addition as he’s able to play on the wings or through the middle.

However, the players agent appears to have squashed any hope of a deal being agreed so Wenger is going to have to look elsewhere if he wants to bring in another option in attack this month.

Newspaper reports this morning have also linked Arsenal with a move for Schalke ace Julian Draxler but Wenger could be set for further disappointment with the potential move likely to be scuppered with the German international sidelined with through injury.
